Ask yourself , would the club be making improvements to bars, hospitality and implementing many changes , if there was a new place even remotely close to coming to fruition. It’s been a vicious circle since we left Eastville and have either not had permission ( magotsfield) or pulled out. With the UWE the4 papers were saying that the UWE people were surprised that we did not come back to the table. But doing nothing makes the mem 10x worse (which was the philosophy pre 2016), helps us lose even more money and doesnt better any of the experience about going to watch Rovers. Its kinda like saying I need a new house and will move in 5 years, all the kitchen doors are hanging off, a window is broken and i cant lock the front door, so ill leave it all. Some general maintainence will give you the better experience of living in the house and save you some money on heat, security etc. So if we are 5 years from a new stadium as a minimum, its worth doing some investment in what we currently own, especially if it helps minimise the losses, which is the other drum that gets banged quite regularly, especially on the other forum. Already on this thread it generates comments like, how long will wael continue to write off £3m? Well if thats reduced to £2m with some clever investment and marketing then its worth doing. Especially if its cost neutral to begin with, like the club shop, sorry superstore, for example. We did come back to the UWE table, but UWE did not want to renegotiate their terms for lease of the land to a freehold site. The house analogy makes no sense unless it’s going to be sold as a house again, there is no comparison with that. I have always been for improvements to the mem but I’d like some places painted so you don’t get the loose rusty paint showers. As i understand it, the improvements are more in the hospitality area and not the infrastructure of the building. As for the UWE, all i can say is that the last article that was reported on it was along the lines of UWE people are confused as to why the club were not negotiating so i am guess you know more than you lead us to believe.

Wael's simply a shareholder in the AJIB (not sure where you get the idea it's a National Bank from?) he doesn't own it nor are is his family combined even the majority shareholders, I believe SwissGas worked out his share holdings value and it was "only" in the £100m's. As far as making a return on his investment how's Wael ever going to do that without spending another £50m/£75m on a new stadium and the club also getting promoted to the Championship? Even then he'll do well to even recover his £100m+ outlay. Swiss gas was guessing though. They have hotels etc all over the place, as well as banks etc. But they are private people, so nobody knows how much they are worth. When they took over, a Jordanian reporter said that they were well known to be minted, but nobody knows how much they have. She said about the hotels as well as a lot of other business they have, all over the world. He has plenty of contacts anyway, in sure he could generate finance from somewhere, for the right project. Swiss is a clever guy, but does plenty of speculating, guessing and assuming. Its caught him out so many times its not even worth bothering with anymore, such is the conjecture. For example, I know of 2 other businesses that Wael is involved with that he didnt list. I dont know how much they are worth and wont even bother to find out. Point is, no one knows what WAQs net worth really is.

Of course it makes a comparison. You may sell it as a house but it could be seen as a land plot for someone to bulldozer and build flats on. Pulling apart the anaolgy is just semantics. Point is, you still have to live in the house until you sell it and we have to live in the mem until we sell it, whatever it may become in the future. So its in our interest to do what we can with it in the meantime to generate money.

Surely, a bit of paint wouldn’t be that hard or expensive to sort. Seems that only the places where money is generated in bigger amounts, are the only things that are being improved. For someone who says he is an ordinary fan you have, again today, given a couple of replies that make you sound ITK , as Wareham said.. i will repeat iot again, i do not envy Wael his position

And I would say that is absolutely the most sensible thing to do. I'm not saying your rusty paint issue isnt an issue, but if putting the fanzone in makes us money and repainting the flakey paint doesnt, then I know what would be a priority. make you sound ITK
Describe what is ITK? From past experience here, being ITK is someone starting rumours ("facts") of things to be potentially happening or not happening at the club, taking that to the nth degree and getting others revved up on all sorts of excitement or negative discussion. Remember the days of GI and Knowall?! Saying something about what I know about someone personally is totally different, especially when that information for me is years old. Now, should I want to seem ITK, I could have used that information to rebut some of the gospel according to Swiss and I could be saying that Wael is definately worth X amount of pounds further adding to just plain speculation. But I didnt and havent, and it doesnt lead me to be anymore ITK about Wael's fortune than Swiss does.

Kingswood polak the cost of bar improvements and temporary stands and other improvements has all been paid for by sponsors, the bars were paid for by Butcombe who are also supplied Thatchers cider through there contract with the club. So Wael and the club haven't really invested any of their own money in the stadium except for the pitch, which when it was poorly laid a few years back and the turf crumbled it wasn't insured so the club had to fork out and pay for the new pitch, got this info from TG. The reduced capacity at the moment is for the FGR and Oxford games nevertheless even after the the capacity goes back up it Will only be just over 10,000 which is a concern. Provided Wael can cope with paying the losses of 2- 3 million, at this level the club can probably cope with the stadium but the real problems would start if we were promoted, Wael and Rovers would be a small fish in the Championship without a much improved Stadium. Remember you don't pay taxes on a loss making concern and I don't whether Wael well can set those losses against his tax bill.

Almost 600 pages now and really we know nothing more than the obvious that we are in need of a new home.
The mem is tired, outdated, falling apart and now getting too small for the crowds wanting to attend games.
Really hoping for some info from the club soon about any plans in the pipe line. Even to say things are actually going on. It's the not knowing anything at a which is a concern.

I did mention to Tom about the paintwork but he wasn't bothered, looks bad on the windows at the back of the Thatchers bar, looks smart from the inside but crap from the outside, throw I don't suppose it matters after you have had a pint or two.

The OP was talking specifically about Wael's AJIB shareholding, as far as Wael being able to raise finance easily, how do any of us know that's the case? If you had £100m in the bank would you lend it to Wael/Rovers to build a new stadium? Wasps are having troubles refinance the money they borrowed to buy Coventry's stadium.

Don’t be silly. You’re better than that eric. Why would he be hoping we lose? He has a different opinion about an aspect of BRFC. Doesn’t make him any less of a fan! Jeez. UTG! Everyone is desperate for positive news and progress towards a better stadium but in the meantime continue to support the club. The odd few just want to post negative stuff constantly which as you can see winds me up. Perhaps I’m the only one fed up with hearing constant negativity after a great ending to last season. Oh I get the need for positive news and progress.... And whatever I always support the club. Anyone can see the strides the club has taken in many directions. But that should not stop fans questioning and challenging the position regarding the ground. Owners and leaders must always be open and be prepared to be challenged about aspects of club management, if you try and stop questions being asked to the owners about the ground I would be worried because I would then ask “what is being hidden from us?” Asking questions about the ground is completely legitimate esp after 6 years, given what the owner said in Feb ‘16. To close down that conversation would be wrong. (But that should not stop others who have a different opinion and also giving credit about the positive things that have happened. As I try to do.) As ever eric, it’s probably about the “how” you do something, criticise or be positive, as much as it is about the “what” you do. 👍 UTG!

The rust on the West stand's supporting metalwork looks slightly alarming but it's probably just surface rust and nothing a few cans of hammerite couldn't fix. At least I hope it's surface rust. Presumably these things need to be inspected regularly. I wonder if the Mem would pass the football stadium equivalent of an MOT?

I'm just glad that, after a long period of reluctant silence, several genuine fans on here are voicing their concerns about the lack of news. Still the attempts to intimidate them continue, for some bizarre reason, but the worries being discussed are completely natural and inevitable, except to those who choose to say 'We must wait and be patient and Wael will see us through and all will be revealed. And wait. And wait.'

Wael has not got the money to afford a new stadium. How would you know what money Wael's got, he's clearly wealthy enough to write off £3m p.a. so must have a few £m stashed away. Did you still think Wael is working undercover for Lansdown to destroy the club?? You bite every time only Wael knows what he can afford and thats the problem.

It was heartening to hear Joey Barton's interview on Radio Bristol. There is no denying Joe's passion for Rovers, and especially encouraging to hear him say he want's a big new stadium for club!! I know, actually having one is oh so difficult. Us Gasheads have to remain optimistic even if a new stadium won't be achievable for many senior fans in their lifetime.
