Don't think stadium is a word in his vocabulary! Are you sure about this?

You know there's nothing Rovers related happening when this resurfaces again.
Roll on Ipswich.

You know there's nothing Rovers related happening when this resurfaces again. Roll on Ipswich. Retrieved this thread from three pages down. You know there’s nothing happening because nothing ever will happen under this owner. Meanwhile over the other side of the city even more developments at Ashton Gate Perhaps Wael will buy us a new tent to keep all his hero worshipers happy.

Yes Wael should walk away and leave the way clear for the queue of Bristolian multi billionaires who are chomping at the bit to step in. Perhaps better still Higgs and Watola could ride back into the rescue armed with a bundle of wonga loans and watertight supermarket deals.

As long as you ignore the ongoing Quarters development. The fact that he has put more money into Rovers than all previous Chairman's combined. Also need to ignore the fact that our backroom team of analysts, physios etc is bigger and more professional than ever before. Ignore also how much redecoration of the stadium and making use of the fans zone. Then once you ignore all of the above you can convince yourself that Wael is here for the fun of it and isnt here to try and move the FC forward. Boy how I wish I was a Ted watching basketball under the bland Bristol Sport banner with zero identity, NOT!

Easy to bash Wael for not making progress but we hardly saw progress in the 30 years leading up to him coming in now did we?

Easy to bash Wael for not making progress but we hardly saw progress in the 30 years leading up to him coming in now did we? Geoff Dunford did buy The Mem which has given us the security that we now enjoy. I doubt Wael's family would have come anywhere near a club renting Twerton Park. Higgs was a disaster though, two full planning consents, didn't build either and non league football. Loved Geoff Dunford but he didn't BUY The Mem - he borrowed the funds, or rather the club did and that was the cause of some of the financial issues. He had no choice as the contract with the egg chasers was that if either club went under, the remaining club could buy the stadium for £2m. If Rovers hadn't come up with the £2m, the land would have been sold to housing developers and then the team would have had to return to Twerton Park with tails between legs!

Ok, he secured the freehold of The Mem. As long as everybody who has a mortgage doesn't own their own home the narrative fits. BRFC did have ownership of 50% of the Mem before the Rugby club went bust. Also, the "contract" to buy the other 50% if either went bust was with Barclays Bank on their insistence. Back to the topic though. Well done Bristol Sport for securing their new planning consent south of the river. What are the odds of them actually building it? Pretty high I would have thought.

Fair point he bought us the Mem (even if it was on a mortgage) however that didn't suppress the need for a new or significantly improved stadium. So whilst a big step forward that should still be lauded, this is still a 40-50 year old problem.

Higgs/Al-Qadi Family = Failed Ownership now with Wael so time will tell if he is more successful than the previous owners.

Boy how I wish I was a Ted watching basketball under the bland Bristol Sport banner with zero identity, NOT! All fair points you raise. The difference with the Mem and AG is that you could redevelop AG and it was worth doing. Yes it borders some residential towards the rear of the stadium but nothing that borders anyones back gardens like it does the Mem meaning that light pollution or blockage as well as noise restrictions come into play less or not at all. AG is also mainly surrounded by industrial estates and an ever improving road network, metro system and park and ride close by. SL purchased the old DIY centre close by so it’s expansion is a natural growth of the stadium. We wouldn’t be able to build or achieve anything similar on the Mem site to generate the kind of revenue that would achieve a good ROI which is why it’s a non starter. We do need to do something soon. I don’t know what our bargaining position is like but if there is a way we can exert some pressure on the FM side (if it’s still on) to get moving or start actively looking for another plot then that’s what we need to do.

I'm 69 next birthday. And all I can say is . I think I backed the wrong horse all those 60 +years ago. First game December 61 City versus Notts County -- Where did it all go wrong.

Yes aware all of your points raised, appreciate the effort though, i just like calling out those who slate the man that is keeping the club going that has brought me joy, occasional ecstasy and plenty of heart break. Then again I'm just coming off the back of the worst MS relapse in 17 hours so it's important to stay positive, as for the people who stand/sit among us and all that negativity drives me nuts, anyway first game for me this season on Saturday in the South Stand on my crutch, a useful weapon if someone close by wants to slate Wael!!! FWIW, I've always believed that the merchant venturer's with old weasel face have gone out of their way to spoil and scupper any plans Rovers have considered within the BCC boundaries, no foundation just a feeling, UTG.

A fellow MSer. Had to take a crutch on a couple of occasions. Not sure they'd allow me in with a walking pole, got a rubber stopper on the end that comes off and reveals a spike for 'off roading' Lethal

I am even older than you but after all this time would settle for the South Tent being replaced by a proper structure!!!! No regrets choosing Rovers. Not been easy but despite everything our side has a soul.Last Sat's euphoria at Exeter was something they would love but their sterile atmosphere at games confirms my choice all those years ago. 10 Sept 1955 at Eastville v Nottingham Forest..We won 4-1. Pre Floodlights.Pre North Stand.Pre Substitutes.Lovely Flower Bed behind the goal at the Tote End!!!
