Having read the Ginsters pasty thread after i was sat thinking about what if any food was on offer in the 70s which is when i first started watching the Gas,(1971 first season) pretty sure i may have had Bovril at some time maybe Tea or Coffee was on sale not sure all a bit of a distant memory now, anyone remember when food drink was introduced or has it always been there. I think steak and kidney pies might have been available in the mid 1970's. Otherwise, as you say, hot drinks, Mars bars and Kit Kats are the only things I can remember.

That's an interesting subject. I don't remember ever eating anything at Eastville, but I suppose there might have been some dodgy 1970s fodder available.
I think people just love to stuff their faces now at every opportunity. Me included. It wasn't a big part of going to a match in the 70s/80s, as I recall. No debates about the merits of pies and the rest. I might be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

Can't comment about the 70s as I only started watching from the early 80s, but I do recall often having a hot dog at half time as a treat.
Sometimes I would queue up after the mad rush and miss the first few minutes of the second half, occasionally missing a goal. 🌭 🙄

A few seasons ago I went to Colchester and it was a very cold day. Bought a bowl of tomato soup and a bread roll for £1. I always thought, why cant other clubs do soup?

They used to sell a beverage called "Beef Tea", which was a bit like soup without any bits in it. Lovely and warming on a cold day, seemed to hit the spot better than tea or coffee.

Always went into the Cafe on Stapleton Rd - think it was called monte carlo. Never bought anything in the ground.

I used to buy Bovril (or the equivalent), a steak and kidney pie and cheese & onion crisps. I always (without fail) burnt my mouth with the drink, I never ever learned my lesson!

I only remember the beautiful smell of pipes, cigars and stale beer breath.

I’m just too young to have gone to see us at Eastville but I remember having some lovely chips there when going to the dogs in the late ‘80s.
