Shockingly bigoted comments from somebody in a senior position at an English football: "Asked whether he was in for McPake, the Irish manager responded in complete shock at the question. He replied: “From Rangers? Rangers? Are you actually telling me I am going to be signing a Rangers player? If he was from Celtic I might think about it. “I haven’t seen that, I haven’t read that, I will go home and have a look and see where that has come from. “It is the first I have heard of it." www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/bristol-rovers-boss-graham-coughlan-3208773It was a joke. Does no one have a sense of humour anymore??! Too many snow flakes about now.

Do you have no sense of humour? Tongue in cheek from GC.

Nice to see good old fashioned sectarianism is still popular. I remember blackthorn end getting stick about certain songs awhile ago.UTG I'm not sure that GC joking about his preference in Glasgow football teams could actually be classed as sectarianism

We're trying as a society to move away from negative judgements based on religion, gender, sexuality etc. These comments are ill-judged and don't help. Not saying it's the most offensive comment in the world, but things have changed and jokes like this seem out of place to me.

Next time Topper says anything bad against City, someone should remind him that disliking another football team can be considered bigotry

Why is he an Irishman with a preference to Celtic? Perhaps (speculating here) that his catholic roots lean him to the green side. Why else would an Irishman support a Scottish club? We all know where the reasonings violent clashes these two clubs have had in the past.
It doesn’t offend me in the slightest, but is it helpful? No. Is it in bad taste? Yes, a bit like Gastafari’s mental health joke yesterday. Should he know better? Absolutely.

They were founded by Irishmen in Glasgow to help the east end community in Glasgow which is where the majority of Irish who went to Scotland ended up after the famine. They describe themselves as 'a Scottish club with Irish roots' so I would say it's entirely natural for an Irishman to have a soft spot for them, it doesn't make anyone a bigot.
