Really? Do you have no sense of humour? Tongue in cheek from GC. But it’s not really funny. He’s in charge of Bristol Rovers not Celtic and so shouldn’t be giving Rovers fans the impression he *might* not sign Rangers players because of his personal allegiances. Nevermind that his club allegiances should be irrelevant while he is paid to be Rovers manager. It’s like me going to manage Portsmouth and joking to their fans I’m not going to bloody well sign Bristol City players- why do their fans care where my loyalties lie? If a good Bristol City player comes up for loan I’d be expected to sign him if I could and rightly so. All in all I wouldn’t say there was any sinister sectarianism there, it’s just yet more foot in mouth by GC and evidence that the man should speak through a PR guy because he absolutely sucks at cultivating a public image. He is the very opposite of the warm and engaging DC.Who lied about his budget

Sad that Bristol has become Snowflake City Seems like they've forgotten about football...is that not what this thread is supposed to be about?

God forbid our manager dares to display any kind of personality. I’m sure if he commented on his dislike of City that would have been roundly applauded, what Celtic has to do with Bristol Rovers (the club he is paid to manage) is anyone’s guess. I can’t remember DC ever commenting on Mansfield’s rivals etc.

Reminds me if the time everybody got on Andy Murray's back when he tongue in cheek said he would be supporting anyone against England in the world cup.

I think gas365 probably is irked because he has a soft spot for Rangers bless him. Having lived in Glasgow, I find it best to have a soft spot for neither.

My reaction would be the same if it was Chester v Wrexham: 1) as a joke it’s not funny 2) it’s massively irrelevant to Bristol Rovers and 3) it might, just might, wind up the club he was having a dig at. But most don’t agree with me, and that’s fine.

Just when you think all the idiots are on the Fruit Market thread, I decide to take a look at this one, and see there's some here as well. Some peoples lives must be very dull these days, though I guess once you've finished being 'upset' by some joke comments from GC, you can find some adverts that might 'offend' you as well, and write a stern email to someone, telling them how traumatised you now are!

Were not interested in him anymore according to the Glasgow press because he plays for Rangers. They obviously don't have a sense of humour!

It was relevant to Rovers because he was asked a question on Josh McPake potentially signing for us from Rangers. I’d agree with Gas365 that it wasn’t a particularly funny joke, the Celtic/Rangers thing is something to be avoided really, but that’s all it was a harmless joke and I expect it sounded better in his head. Probably best to just move on and forget about it now.

I just googled and it’s being blown up north of the border- not exactly good publicity for the club. Imo he would do better to pretend how he would set his team out if he was manager of Celtic as he would surely show more attacking intent in the league and *gasp* actually try and play some football on the deck if he was!

Other reports in the Scottish press acknowledge that he was joking or just haven't covered the story. There might be some moans on Twitter, but when hasn't there been.
The Rangers News story is the exception, but the author misses the self-deprecating humour
Sounds to me like your pursuing your own agenda against Coughlan.

Guess you can add Rangers to the list of imaginary rivals along with Wycombe, Barnet and FGR.

There was absolutely no sectarianism or anything bad said let’s all be honest!! It just puts coughlan and more importantly our club in a negative light, the whole Rangers-Celtic debate is one to stay well away from when you’re the manager of Bristol Rovers and have no history with either of the two teams and when there’s a good following for both who support the gas, seems coughlan is shooting the club in foot in the way of potential loan signings who could of done well for us in a position we are desperately short on, look how well Docherty done for Shrewsbury on Loan from Rangers last year for starters, with all Rangers players and staff still currently playing/retired, coaching, and managing, it could have negative future repercussions long after coughlans gone

Not Swansea because DC said it wasn't his job to develop other clubs players. By some peoples logic that makes him a racist bigot as well given that Swansea is in Wales! Let me explain clearly that the above is tongue in cheek but you get my drift - hopefully?
