Whether these are true or not it’s nothing out of the ordinary to the standard level of conduct for pretty much every PM this country has ever had. Didn’t the great Tony Blair take us in to war on the basis of misinformation and lies? Do governments make good on every pledge they ever make? Boris seems to have been expected to achieve a far higher level of conduct than anyone in history by those on the left who wish to make a mountain of a molehill on everything he does, this is the era we are in which is following the Americans in that rather than promote positive ideas of their own parties the first port of call is to go digging for dirt, mud slinging and anything to discredit the opposition. a lot of people still don't have anytime for Tony Blair because of Iraq and won't give anything he says the time of day
People can make mistakes and do wrong and come back from them. I don't think Boris Johnson is held to a higher standard, just that he form for multiple infractions shall we say. It's well known he had two versions of his column about remain or leave and he was always going to side with what his best option is, because his sole aim is to be PM and nothing else
What annoys me is how Boris Johnson and members of his cabinet (Mogg, Patel, Raab) can show little to no humility for the policies the Tory Government has enacted in the past 9 years, whilst now portraying themselves as some sort of bastion of new hope and they can just get away with it.
I'd much prefer them to hold their hands up and say yeah, we did it and present their new case and not just pretend 9 years never happened. Their whole election pitch is one of opposition to the things they have done, but they can't point the finger at themselves unlike the other parties
The gulf in class between some of the politicians is incredible.
Brexit has been a mess, people like Dominic Grieve or David Gauke may have changed their minds and may pay the price, but they have stood up for what they believe to be right whatever anyone's views on their politics and will now be replaced by sycophants.
Sir Oliver Letwin and Ken Clarke again, often questionable politics for some, but men who have stood up for parliamentary procedure. A huge gulf in class between him and Boris Johnson and the many chancers, and spivs who occupy the cabinet right now.
These are people who were in The Conservatives who cannot even stand the direction their party is taking. Many of them will/would probably applaud the policies he has proposed but I doubt they believe he is capable of achieving it and even think themselves Boris Johnson is unfit to be PM. People in his own parties let alone Joe Public
I agree with much of what you say. I still think Boris is held to a higher standard than those before him but I think there is a general shift in politics where every comment is hyper analysed and spun, every facial expression is interpreted by wannabe psychologists and there is this nasty undercurrent of dirty tactics and searches for skeletons in personal closets. Every political programme you watch there is either a presenter grandstanding and making it all about them (Kay Burley and Marr for example) or members of the audience looking for their minute of fame with a rant. I don’t think there are many trustworthy or classy MP’s left these days. Those leaving the Conservative party are mainly brexit driven decisions but there are also plenty leaving labour, due to their ‘Jewish Problem’ and mistrust of their own leader and his Stalinist buddies. Brexit is a mess but why? The electorate did their bit and gave a clear message to leave, despite agreeing to uphold the result the politicians and those on the periphery have chosen to disrupt and delay at every opportunity. This thing about it being widely known Boris had two columns prepared - where did it originate? Is it an urban myth or is there genuine evidence? Did it come from left leaning media or a member of the opposition?

Some skeletons in the cupboard?? Like Hitler had "some" problems controlling his temper? If that`s how you see things, no wonder you`re struggling to comprehend why so many people appear to be leaning towards BJ. Perhaps How about Rees-Mogg inferring the victims of Grenfell were stupid for following instruction? Political viewpoints are one thing..but Now don't you be silly Oldie. JRM didn't suggest anyone was being 'stupid' for following instructions. Listen to what he actually said and you'll find that the first official report into the disaster backed him up!

I think Russell Howard summed it up best
Is that the same Russell Howard who recently made headlines after upsetting the mother of a disabled child with some insensitive comments? well context.(I take it you have never watched Russell Howard's show)
1) yes he did upset a disabled child's mother, however the point of his comments (watching the show as id o) was a bigger piece about why is life so hard for disabled people in this day and age myself was not to upset, but about equality and to point out that authorities sign off on crap instead of making things accessible. Like he pointed out about over 1000 railway stations being inaccessible.
Anyone who has watched his show knows all about his feelings and championing on equality and good causes.
2) ignoring Russell Howards comments about Jacob Rees-Mogg, the salient piece of information is why are buildings still covered in this stuff. The Bolton fire seems to have been quietly ignored other than a brief report on it, despite the obvious avenue to hold the Government to account after Grenfell

So the reality is the headlines from both the JRM and Russell Brand controversies have been blown out of proportion and deliberately spun to support certain agenda’s and create fake news. Like I keep saying on various subjects on this and the brexit thread these things work both ways and at both ends of the political spectrum. I don’t know enough about the cladding but sure I’ve read there are many different types from many different manufacturers and shouldn’t all be thrown in the same basket. There are thousands of commercial buildings and private residential developments with cladding but there seems to be an inference among some that cladding is something the rich have imposed upon the poor and they are all in grave danger. There needs to be some proper investigations and analysis and the politicians, social commentators and media need to stop the distasteful use of Grenfell as a political weapon.

Boris Johnson's promise to employ an extra 50,000 NHS nurses has unravelled further after a cabinet minister suggested that the pledge would not be met for ten years. Nicky Morgan, the culture secretary, said the additional nurses would be in place "if you look in 10 years' time" and struggled to explain how the government would convince current nurses not to leave. It comes after the Tories were criticised when it emerged that 18,500 of the 50,000 extra nurses promised in their election manifesto would not be new recruits but simply existing staff that the government will try to persuade to stay in the NHS. Labour said the claim was "fake" and "frankly deceitful".
Ms Morgan's further suggestion that the pledge will not to be met in the next five years is likely to fuel claims that the Conservatives are making manifesto pledges that they are not planning to deliver in the next parliament, Mr Johnson has repeatedly claimed that his government will build 40 new hospitals, despite the government providing money to upgrade only six hospitals before 2025, with further investment in others to follow at a later date. Forced to defend the government's pledge on nurses, Ms Morgan told ITV's Good Morning Britain: "There will be overall - and we are very, very clear on this - 50,000 more nurses if you look in 10 years' time than there are today." Insisting that the nurses would be "new" even though 18,500 of them already work in the NHS, she said: "I think it's realistic to say we've got highly skilled staff who we do not want to leave. If we are able to persuade them and to encourage them to stay, that is good news for nursing care in this country." But speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today, Ms Morgan appeared unable to explain how the government planned to convince the 19,000 nurses not to leave the NHS, claiming only that recruiting more staff would help persuade existing employees to stay

It seems to me that the Tory strategy is not to pledge to do much, and hence not leave themselves open to analysis and critique, not to say much, therefore limit the chances of screwing up, and keep people away from the cameras. Hence no sign of Rees-Mogg. Quite surreal, until you realise this is the tactic of the demagogue wishing to escape scrutiny.

To be fair, Oldie, that`s all they have to do. Keep schtum, and let people ponder the consequences of voting for Corbyn.

Equally though, the consequences of an inept Tory Party, led by a bumbling buffoon, one with scant regard for the outcomes of their policies, are hard to contemplate with any degree of comfort.

It was discussed recently, can’t remember where and the upshot is there are numerous types of cladding but the two major ones are the type in Grenfell and another that is much more common and also much more dangerous than the type found in Grenfell, but as you would expect there is not much movement on the issue to the point that nothing is being done. Don’t be surprised to see another a Grenfell/Bolton in a few years. Hopefully this time people will have learnt not to listen to the fire brigade.

This made me laugh "Not that the morning had gone totally to plan. Boris Johnson had been put in for a reboot – he now resembles a gone-to-seed 1970s Giant Haystacks doll with a malfunctioning voice mechanism that can only repeat the same three lame gags over and over again – and so Morgan was the only vaguely credible Tory politician available to defend the manifesto on the media. Though even Chris Grayling might have done better on Good Morning Britain when trying to explain away how 19,000 of the extra 50,000 nurses that had been promised were merely nurses who were currently working and wouldn’t be deported." Wait, there’s a general election? Given the way Labour are threatening to nationalise anything that isn’t nailed down and the Tories are threatening to be nice to everyone I rather suspect we are indeed about to have an election.
