About 5 yrs ago , played on 3G and 4G . Ok , I play on 4g every week and also play a fair bit on poor grass surfaces which tend to be uneven , muddy , often slope one way or another or sometimes two ways like twerton does. 4 G pitches are flat and the surface is decent , yes the zip is slightly different from grass but I’d rather play on 4G than a crap grass surface. If they beat us tonight then we can’t blame the pitch , as long as it’s a decent AstroTurf pitch. Maybe because I’m a bit old skool then , but to me playing on an artificial pitch just isn’t real football . Give me a slopey muddy mostly grass covered pitch every single time.

Who cares? we avoided defeat and a TV humiliation. The fact we didn't light up the game, unlike their fans and their "pitch", all that will be remembered is that we progressed to the next round. We would have lost that in the DC era, with supposedly better players like Snake, Bodin and Ellis in our ranks. GC may not play pretty football, but it's effective. I care, sat at work, and a couple of people saying how dreadful we are, I don't need to be told. This is now the standard of our football. Appalling negative and bordering on embarrassing, the result saves the final part, but by the skin of its teeth, but we were outplayed by a non-league team, listen to the managers comments, I cant believe what I hear and read - they are non-league. I am getting close to throwing in the towel, I hold a ST and have been a fan 47 years, I'm nearly done watching this managers football.
But its effective......GC is doing what any good manager does...he uses the resources available to him to get the best results. I watched the whole match on TV last night, and cant believe some of the things I am reading on here. We were playing a team full of confidence with a packed home crowd....just because they play two division below us does not mean we can walk over them. Yeah we got lucky with the disallowed goal but overall we were fine. I cant think of one Bromley player who I would want at BRFC and after scoring the goal I never felt we would lose . I would rather be winning that playing the pretty players like Bennet and losing - and that is what would happen! GC has got the players working hard and producing results. Good enough for me.

Ah, childhood memories. If lucky you'd get a set of goalposts. No net so poor goalie not only gets beaten by a screamer but then has to retrieve the ball

No one will remember this game when we reach the 5th round if we get to 5 round playing like this I will be dead from boredom 🤣 Blimey, that would be tough, walking to the new White Hart Lane for the 5th round or walking up Wembley Way for the semi final saying “this is going to be another 90 minutes of boredom isn’t it awful.” Wouldn’t that be terrible! 😉 UTG!

It’s the cup so it’s all about the result. Well done GC and players. I know it’s the same for all players but none of our players could predict the bounce or hold on to the ball when it came to them. Back 3 were very good and Rollin was MOM. Congrats to him, well deserved imo. UTG! Seems a bit weird though for your main tactic, on a plastic pitch, to involve keeping the ball in the air and inviting plenty of bounce! Ah well, maybe GC is waiting til we play on sand to unleash his Guardiola-seque passing philosophy.... Probably because none of ours could control a pass to them on the ground. They didn’t seem able to have a first touch and control the ball. But yes the big boot is a strange tactic normally. UTG!

You're the keeper, you get it. But you let the striker past, so you get it. But you should have saved it, so you get it. But I had to get the last five!

GC is doing a great job with what he has. I said it in the summer and I’ll say it again, GC and is has fans will have to suck up this season, it’s a rebuilding year and there are still players here that DC sign which quite frankly are terrible, that no one else wants on high wages taking up our budget. Once GC can move those on and sign some quality back into the side we may see a different style of football coming through. It’s not pretty, but we are getting results and to come through last night on a plastic pitch to round 2 with some money in the bank which we haven’t achieved for 4 years will do for me. But will JCH still be here when the likes of Bennett & Nichols have gone? Let's face up to it w/o his goals we'd probably be relegation candidates in most normal seasons. Plus is GC actually capable of signing a creative player as he hasn't managed to sign one so far. Let's hope the money we've earned, as a result of getting to R2, which most be approaching £100K?, goes to GC in January and not just to pay down the club debts. It’s a good point. I’m sure he is able to sign one or would do but I’m not sure he wants to or where one would fit into his system. It looks like he has a way of playing and he sticks to it. Were he to sign a creative midfield I presume it would be instead of Sercombe not as well as him. Most of us watching, from the comments on here, think we need some midfield creativity but I’m not sure GC does and to be fair to him results-wise he’s been successful but it is a hard watch. UTG!

There is some serious Ipswich Town syndrome about this place at the moment. In that, they too were knocking on the play off door (in the championship) yet many of the fan base despised Mick McCarthy’s style of play/methods. The board bowed to their wishes, the sacking came, new manager entered the building and they were relegated within 12months. It’s most definitely a careful what you wish for situation, just like the Tractor Boys a few seasons ago.
We returned home at 2:30am last night, safe in the knowledge that we scored, didn’t concede, suffered no injuries on a questionable surface, one of youngsters put in a very decent MOM performance & are through to the next round. That is all that matters. By hook or by crook, the buzz word is ‘effective’.
Very much looking forward to Shrewsbury this weekend, another 3 league points on the horizon.

In the summer GC had to rebuild our defensive half with most players leaving during this period. We didn’t have many midfielders or strikers move on so there wasn’t much potential. Come January with another cup win we might generate enough cash to pay off Bennett and / or Nichols. This would give us scope to do some wheeling and dealing JCH style. Let’s see. Fair play to you. By then we will be getting crowds of 5000 but then can all come back and watch football. What happened to the support your club through thick and thin, faithful and true motto we are proud to sing at games? We are top half of L1 just before Xmas and you are going to stop going because we play defensive football and cant sign anyone until January?? Mental.

I dunno, Coulson their number 7 was excellent last night and gave Bromley the sort of creativity we dont have in any player currently in our squad. Pirate doesn't like him though so he's no good for us....!!!

We returned home at 2:30am last night I got home at 1:30am … diverted off M25 and then again on M4 around Reading. Not a pleasant trip home! But at least we didn't lose.... (and very glad of no extra time!!!) I have recorded the game on BT Sport. Might watch that at some point (glutton for punishment)? … safe in the knowledge that we win the game

People want to be entertained not just bored rigid, last night was like watching a horror movie where it was almost unbearable to watch at times, even though we were winning for most of the game. Although I'm not sure sure we set out to play defensive football, more like we're so poor that we just get penned back in our own half. I sense there's only you building your hopes up for January, if talks are really at an advanced stage to sell the club then I can't see the ALQ's going on a spending spree!

He's 25 now and maybe that consitency has improved? I haven't seen enough of him over the past year or so to say. Edit: Joe Kizzi from them could play at a higher level.

Happy viewing also, I’d be keen to see the Sercombe chance again (hopefully appears in the highlights) shortly after going 1-0 up. It was a low cross to the edge that he blazed over, when I really think he could have taken a touch and picked his spot. All if’s and but’s of course but that really would have settled us down in what was really a backs to the wall job, for long periods.

I don't buy into the theory that once coughlan gets the dead wood out of the club he will be signing creative players/wingers etc. I just think he is a tony pulis, sam allardyce or as someone else commented a mick mccarthy type of manager and always will be however long his career lasts. The problem he has got and the same applies to pulis etc is this football is out of fashion and many people simply cannot stomach watching it.

Said very much with tongue in cheek dear chap given that you always spot the talent at 18-19. Like our very own Rollin, who was excellent last night and fully deserved his MOM.

And remind me what happened to Stoke and Middlesborough after he left? Faring far worse than when Pulis was there. Say what you like about big Sam, the guy knows how to mould a team of fighters. Effectively what some people are saying here its better to play attractive football in a division below or lower in the division than to play a defensive game and be knocking on the door of the top 6 in a higher/same division...??
