A couple of interesting questions:
1. If the 2016-17 Rovers team and the 2019-20 Rovers team played each other, who do you think would win? Why?
2. Who is the better manager Darrell Clarke 2016-17 or Graham Coughlan 2019-20 (exclusive to those individual seasons).
3. Who is the best overall player from either the 2016-17 or the 2019-20 Rovers team?
4. Make a combined XI from players from either the 2016-17 Rovers team or the 2019-20 Rovers team
My answers for be: 1. Honestly, this team, we were very poor defensively for lots of the 2016-17 season and I feel like Jonson Clarke-Harris would tear a lot of them apart. 2. I think Darrell Clarke, Clarke had a lot of tactical masterclasses that season which he exclusively won through his tactics. Although Coughlan's a good manager, I wouldn't expect us to get an away draw against top of the league. 3. I think most people can agree it's one of three; Matty Taylor, Jonson Clarke-Harris or Billy Bodin. And I know we all hate him but I think I'd have to give the nod to Taylor, Taylor was unstoppable from August to January, was top goalscorer by a decent margin in League 1 I believe. Just unfortunate he snaked us out. 4. Personally, taking the formation we have now:
GK: Jaakkola RWB: Leadbitter CB: Lockyer CB: Craig CB: Davies LWB: Leahy CM: Ogogo CM: Clarke (16-17) CM: Bodin (I know he's not a CM but I can't not include Bodin, if Eden Hazard can feature in a TOTY as a CM why can't Bodin just to make everyone happy) ST: Clarke-Harris ST: Taylor

It’s a results business and Cogs is getting the results. If I could hand pick players from that season on to this seasons squad I’d have Taylor alongside JCH Brown would be my first choice left back ahead of leahy who I think has been good but not as good a player as browner. Lockyer would give us 5 center half’s and plenty of choice for our back three. Bodin would be there too obviously , not sure about Ellis but I’d have him in the squad probably. That’s those players even now , not then . With that squad we’d make the play offs. But who would win our current team against that team who knows anything could happen in a match .

I'd have Lee Brown at LWB and Upson instead of Ollie from your best 11. Leahy is ok - looking forward to THD taking his place when he's up to speed.

Anyone appears able to beat anyone and big sides are nothing special (apart perhaps from Ipswich). So you can't just compare league positions, in my opinion.

Im a great believer in where you finish in the league after a long season is exactly where you deserve to be and if you get promoted or relegated you deserve it.

All this the league is a tough one this year or weaker this year is bollocks it’s still the third tier of our professional league and we’re in it to win it. Same as any other season.

People say this year league one is weak but i'm not so sure. Sunderland and portsmouth have got some really good players but they have found it hard going, coventry, fleetwood and blackpool have been developing into quality teams for some time. Peterborough and doncaster are exceptional going forward and wycombe are a club on the up after a takeover and are very well drilled. And don't forget rotherham and burton who are loaded up with players who have played championship football. Remember coventry were a good enough team to offload clarke-harris,davies and ogogo who have been superb mostly for rovers.

Sunderland and Pompey may have good players but they have been underperforming, hence why the former sacked their manager! Wycombe have been taken over but that was after the transfer window closed. Yesterday days game sums up League 1 yesterday as I thought the Shrewsbury team were the worse I'd seen for years. On another day we could have scored 6+ goals and that was without JCH.

The league in my opinion is very weak this year, for that reason I feel the 16/17 team was better.

I think this team, but it wouldn't be pretty - GC would have to put in one of those performances where we really close the back door. We're opposite teams really - going forward is our problem but we're strong defensively, whereas that team couldn't defend to save their lives. 2. Have to say DC in that season. 3. Overall, it's got to be Taylor. Bodin is more exciting and creates something out of nothing - however, Taylor got a lot of assists as well. 4. GK: Jaakola RB: Hare (from what I've seen this season) CB: Craig (18/19) CB: Davies LB: THD (when fit) CM: Upson CM: Ogogo CM: Clarke (16/17) FWD: Bodin FWD: JCH FWD: Taylor Unfortunately the midfield is still too weak.
