The sound of silence from all the people slagging us off as usual. At least wait till 90 minutes is up! UTG Yeah you’re right, in hindsight it’s really easy to comment on things. On top of that, I guess people shouldn’t comment anything during the game, only at FT. I guess people don’t have the right to voice their concerns at the first half performance.. I can bet you that worser things were said at the stadium at half time than in this forum, well apart from you anyway - I’m sure you thought and said to others “at least wait until 90 minutes is up” There was plenty of moaning in the ground at half time, myself included, because it was a bloody awful performance. I think what winds people up are the same people who pipe up on here when things are not going perfectly and then disappear when we do well. They seem to take pleasure in seeing us lose and then slagging us off despite claiming to be Gasheads.

I agree the first half warranted criticism but I will never boo my side off, don’t think it serves any purpose. Forgive me if I’m wrong but I’d guess Fat Albert was talking about those on here that slag off the team every single week and never have anything good to say. Why not, when we were utter sh1te, what do you expect fans to do applaud them off and let them think it was an appectable performance? We got lucky today as Jaaki kept us in the game with 2 or 3 decent saves in the first half or it could have well been game over. In the second half for 30 mins we suddenly became unplayable I've never witness such a second half turn around, I guess GC must have threatened to cancel tonight's players Christmas party to get such a reaction! Do you think the players needed the fans to tell them they were sh**? They will have known that themselves and had GC and his team tearing into them at half time as well. I just don’t see booing by the fans as having any positive impact, in fact for some players it will make them even less confident and make them more risk averse in their on pitch decisions. For the record fans have every right to vent their frustrations after paying for their tickets, I just don’t think there is anything to be gained. Why do you consider the only option to booing is to applaud them off? A completely over the top and nonsensical response designed to antagonise as usual.

I think part of the problem is that we are ugly to watch but effective and are getting results. Thats bound to polarise the fan base. 2nd half today we played 4 at the back and pushed on and looked all the better for it, albeit against a pretty poor opponent. I don’t remember any fan polarisation in 1990 when we didn’t exactly play a brilliant, stylish brand of football. I think the snobbish attitude of premier league fans is gradually filtering down the leagues !!!

Have no idea where we will end up this season ,common sense tells me finishing in top ten is a good season and all the points we are gaining now is a good insurance against any bad spells we may have, Rovers seem to have a problem being 'up' for these kind of matches and it took the embarrassing first half and no doubt the hair dryer treatment from GC to shake them out of there lethargy, I am sure they will need no such motivating in the next two league games or the cup replay, Southends performance seems to mirror there season so far, falling apart in the latter stages of games, anyway all's well that ends well and its quite entertaining looking back at the first half post's on this forum! up the Rovers! I don’t understand how we can be so lacklustre at times. We have some decent players but nowhere near the quality of some others in this division. I can accept poor performance and where technique may be letting us down but I cannot forgive a lack of effort and spirit which is what I saw in the first half today. Second half was loads better, we didn’t play scintillating football but were “at it” after GC gave the boys a rollicking. I too see all these points we’re accumulating as a bit of insurance and can’t really see us going up but this is Rovres so you never know! UTG The key to Coggers success so far in my opinion is get the ball in to the attacking third quickly , if we don’t then the problems start from our first pass which is usually from a CB to another CB then in to midfield , maybe to a wing back then back in to midfield and then back to a centre back , we haven’t got a playmaker in midfield so it doesn’t, it can’t work. Start with a long ball to Jono , then it’s game on , the wing backs are in the oppositions half by the time the balls landed on his head. We’ve then got 8 players in the oppositions half and were on the front foot. First half was like v Bromley , dicking about trying to be a short passing team and absolutely sh**e at it.

I dont think it was unreasonable for people to be critical after that first half. Ed Upson said after the game that they all had the treatment from GC at half time and it was deserved. Critical -fair enough, but some of the over reactions are as usual laughable. We are up and down at the best of times, so why mug yourselves off by proclaiming we are this that and the other only to see it turned around. Haters gonna hate I suppose. UTG The team deserved a collective bollocking but the slagging off of Nichols was laughable. Any fans of any team would have been watered off at the first half performance. We could have easily have been 4-0 down.

I thought he had a good game today and was as surprised as him when he was take off. He seemed to be having words with GC in the dug out and was clearly unhappy. Was anyone closer to the dugouts than me to see more or hear what was said?

Competed fiercely in the 2nd half and tactically went very direct instead of centre-backs passing to each other. Looking back on the 1st half comments on here after coming home from watching the actual game its as if several posters have just started watching football for the 1st time in their lives. One bloke said "game over" at 2-0 down! That was me. Obviously I'm delighted we came back but at the time we were 2-0 down and lucky it wasn't 5 or 6 at HT. Easy to come on here and offer out humble pie after the event.

Thats a quite shocking crowd. It was loads more I'm not sure of that, lots of space on the west terrace, south stand near empty, east terrace a bit thin on the ground. Only the Thatchers looked busy (ish).

I thought Nichols was brilliant playing off of Jono in the second half. Everybody was sh**e in the first half except the keeper who pulled off the save of season . JCH is at his best when we play a very quick direct approach and he’s got Nichols alongside him. If we’re not going with Nichols then go with Smith. Adeboyjo hasn’t really shown enough for me but he’s our substitute target man I guess .

The contrast in performance from first to second half can be explained. There was no Churchillian speech from GC - he simply threatened to cancel the players Xmas party tonight and make them come in for training Sunday morning. He should go into to motivational speaking when he retires from football !
I hope they have a good night in Chasers and behave themselves.

Yeah, I never leave early, but for that free kick they had at the end of the first half, I said to myself if they score now, I'll just Dam go home.

Instructions at halftime not to fart around passing the ball around at the back appeared to have been heeded by the players and today proved that if you move the ball quicker sides can't push up on you and force the panic hoofball clearance straight to their players that was evident in the first half today. From the first minute of the second half, Southend who we made look so good in the first half, reverted to what they have been all season, a very poor side.

What I don't get is that our original plan, presumably, was planned out carefully over the past few days with a bunch of professionals, with scouting reports, tons of analysis, and expert decision making, and they probably came up with the only plan conceivable that would make Southend look sh** hot.

Not read all the posts but I’m having my say, we scored 4 goals today but yet again no Nichols on the score sheet. Really think it’s time we got rid and get someone else in who scores goals. He’s had to many chances and his time is up.
