England could be sensationally drafted in to host the 2018 World Cup if Fifa is forced to strip Qatar of the 2022 tournament.
The world footballing body was in crisis last night after an investigation alleged the oil-rich state's top football official, Mohamed Bin Hammam, had paid for crucial votes.
Calls came from across the globe to throw Qatar's right to host the tournament on the scrapheap and begin the bidding process from scratch.
However experts said it would be impossible to stage a bid for the 2022 World Cup without also re-starting bidding for the 2018 tournament.
This is because Fifa invited bids for the two competitions at the same time.
Surely the magnificent UWE Stadium would be chosen over the Re-developed Trashton Carbuncle.
