Can't fault what GC has done to transform our league position and long may it continue ! My only concern so far is the STYLE of football causing our dramatic fall in attendances or just a sign of the times ? A sign of the times, style of play or a symptom of iFollow on the increase? Probably a bit of each. Would be interesting to see if other clubs gates are down too this season . Honestly I’ve got no idea Edit : I just looked it up and can’t find figures for this season but last season saw a 60 year high.

I think some people need to decide whether they want entertaining football, or effective football. I'm not sure we can have both with or current budget. I'd certainly prefer where we are now to taking a risk and spend money and end up dropping down the table.

If last season was a 60 year high then it might be more probable that gates could dip this season. You don’t always keep on getting bigger and better, sometimes you have a dip before going up again. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. UTG!

Honestly I’ve got no idea Edit : I just looked it up and can’t find figures for this season but last season saw a 60 year high. 2016/17 was the recent average attendance high point with 9,302 being the highest since 1976, when we exceeded 10,000. Crowds have fallen each season since, and especially so this time round despite our lofty position.

If the club actually shows some ambition in January and sign a couple of decent players then more will come and, if God willing, we actually get taken over with a new stadium starting the crowds would increase again. I know the last 2 scenarios appear report, but we live in hope!

And his playing and coaching budget is probably at least half a million less (Lines, Locks, Stewy and DC's own wages) Just guesswork, coughlan has signed several experienced players who would not come cheap. The Widdrington interview seemed to suggest they were getting a grip on the wage bill and starting to bring it under control. At the end of the day you have to pay at a competitive rate, otherwise they won't come.

It's probably a far bigger issue than just the quality of football we are watching.

I seldom go to away games and in the 2nd season back in league one the home matches were entertaining but the away form was poor. Some posters are saying you can either have winning football or entertaining football which is utter rubbish of course because you can have both. I cannot speak for others but no owners in the clubs history have ever been able to make rovers a force in the game so why suddenly stop going now after a 100 years of nothing?

Blackpool the biggest increase but they have extenuating circumstances because of the stay aways under Oyston rule returning this year. Everyone else are within an average of 750 swing in either direction, with us, Sunderland and Oxford some of the biggest losers.\ Thing is, its not just one poor season last year. The last 20 games of the season prior to DC reign he won 4 games I think and had a mix of draws and losses. That was the warning sign that he needed to rebuild, but he kept the faith with his favourites and then it properly unfolded. So thats nearly a season and a half of dire league results and cup exits, Chelsea away excluding, and a relegation fight of dire football before GC steadied the ship. When that happens the ripple goes through seasons. Just like it did off the back of, promotion to L2 and then the following season to L1 when we finished 10th, the ripple swung the other way then. Football is a fickle business, people only attend and sing en mass when their winning and we are no different. If we are still in the play offs with 5 home games to go every one of them will be made all ticket.

I think if we get a few more decent results over the next few weeks people will start coming back. I'll be having a look in the new year when back in the country.

DC was sacked 1 year ago on Friday (13th December), before Rovers putting GC in charge of the club. Some were happy, many were unhappy. Some will remember I wasn't behind the sacking unless GC kept us up, I even created a thread to applaud GC & the club last year. gasheads.proboards.com/thread/14298/saidIn the post I said, " Whether GC is the right man next season is another matter - however despite poor performances at times, we have secured L1 football next season. GC said it wouldn't be pretty & it wasn't" Well, one year on I can firmly say I am 100% behind GC. Although I didn't feel it at half time yesterday, the results speak for themselves. Anyone still not behind GC & this squad need to have a long look at themselves in the mirror. We're 5th in L1! Honestly speaking, 1 year ago I wouldn't have even dreamt of being in the position we are now. Keep up the fantastic work GC and let's get behind him Sadly, it goes further up the chain of command & we are at least 2K fans down. As much as I’d love to say I’m loving this, truth is I’m finding watching the games very difficult and , if not for the one person who gives me serious stick, I’d go but stay in the pub until it was over. I hear many others saying they just aren’t feeling *it* in the time since GC took over and my honest opinion is that we have , more than likely, lost them until we get real and positive news. The comments I’m getting, about the FM site is that it’s a silly place to have us there.

Our last 2 league games have been amazing games, ending 4-3 and 4-2. I understood the *it* factor before, but now we're 5th in the table and looking good. We've been rag bag rovers for decades, if it takes a new stadium for people to start attending games again then I have to question their support tbh. I don't think the FM site is a silly place at all, whats wrong with the centre of Bristol as part of the new commercial development? Its something we could only dream of. Yet, we're Bristol Rovers - we have nothing and when something might come along, we don't want it as it's not good enough?

I can only post what I hear and read. If being totally honest, I drive that way fairly often and it’s a nasty drive, from Kingswood anyway but I’d hope there would be park & ride at the least. Right now I drive one week and my mucker drives the next and he has said he would have to think twice about going there and I’ve not met anyone more true blue than him and it’s him that keeps me going tbh. I understand beggars can’t be choosers and it’s a great opportunity but we have heard sod all about it other than media reports. I think Steve Hamers departure said more of it than anything else but I’m doing the same as everyone else, speculating and because we haven’t heard a single word on it since the shock of WAQ talking about it.

I think it all needs to be taken with a pinch of salt tbh. The infrastructure of the entire area would change from what it is not - there's no way it would stay the same. Plus, as you say the increase in public services. Getting a train would be handy too, straight into Temple Meads! For me it's a case of - get a new stadium and then i'll deal with the issue of getting there/how often I can go, rather than opposing something before the land is even purchased (Just as an FYI, i'm not accusing you of this, just saying a general point). I do think the fact that DC went, coupled with lack of communication from the club has hurt our attendances - but there really isn't much more GC can do IMO. If people aren't behind him whilst being 5th in the table, then they never will be!

Last season as well as Sunderland we had Luton, Barnsley, Coventry as well With Coventry now down to 6K home gates I wouldn't bank on them having a large away following this season. Plus our holiday season games are shockers this season, just Wimbledon on Boxing Day and Burton on Easter Monday, could the EFL computer have managed to pick games with lower away followings?

Would be interesting to see if other clubs gates are down too this season . Honestly I’ve got no idea Edit : I just looked it up and can’t find figures for this season but last season saw a 60 year high. Last season 1 Sunderland 31,925 2 Portsmouth 18,217 3 Bradford City 16,138 4 Charlton Athletic 14,944 5 Barnsley 12,526 6 Coventry City 12,362 7 Plymouth Argyle 9,851 8 Luton Town 9,516 9 Bristol Rovers 8,380 10 Doncaster Rovers 8,224 11 Peterborough United 7,364 12 Oxford United 7,315 13 Southend United 6,992 14 Shrewsbury Town 6,407 15 Blackpool 5,516 16 Wycombe Wanderers 5,388 17 Gillingham 5,242 18 Walsall 4,927 19 AFC Wimbledon 4,253 20 Scunthorpe United 4,226 21 Rochdale 3,574 22 Burton Albion 3,351 23 Fleetwood Town 3,164 24 Accrington Stanley 2,763 This season so far: 1 Sunderland 30,020 2 Ipswich Town 19,996 3 Portsmouth 17,713 4 Bolton Wanderers 10,786 5 Blackpool 9,134 6 Rotherham United 9,124 7 Milton Keynes Dons 8,953 8 Lincoln City 8,925 9 Doncaster Rovers 8,347 10 Peterborough United 7,854 11 Bristol Rovers 7,310 12 Oxford United 6,806 13 Tranmere Rovers 6,797 14 Southend United 6,239 15 Coventry City 6,120 16 Shrewsbury Town 6,021 17 Wycombe Wanderers 5,588 18 Gillingham 5,396 19 AFC Wimbledon 4,337 20 Rochdale 3,497 21 Burton Albion 3,315 22 Accrington Stanley 3,251 23 Fleetwood Town 3,072 www.footballwebpages.co.uk/league-one/attendancesTo add to the above, the % change from last season to this season for the 17 teams who were in league 1 both seasons: 1 Sunderland -5.97%2 Portsmouth -2.77%6 Coventry City -50.49%9 Bristol Rovers -12.77%10 Doncaster Rovers +1.5%11 Peterborough United +6.65%12 Oxford United -6.96%13 Southend United -10.77%14 Shrewsbury Town -6.02%15 Blackpool +65.59%16 Wycombe Wanderers +3.71%17 Gillingham +2.94%19 AFC Wimbledon +1.98%21 Rochdale -2.15%22 Burton Albion -1.07%23 Fleetwood Town -2.91%24 Accrington Stanley +17.66%
Coventry and Blackpool are outliers as off field matters have contributed to them. Only Accrington have a bigger % swing than us and that is in a positive movement. We have reduced the most once you exclude Coventry. The only other team on 10% or more negative movement is Southend who have won once all season and are truly awful. Incredible really we're 5th and just goes to show that it must be off field issues and style of play rather than anything attributable to the whole league 1 market, such as ifollow or generally decreasing attendances.

I know this has been dismissed before, but I wonder if our casual 'turn up on the day' numbers have been massively reduced by the new ticketing systems. Perhaps they will come back when they get used to it?
