I know this has been dismissed before, but I wonder if our casual 'turn up on the day' numbers have been massively reduced by the new ticketing systems. Perhaps they will come back when they get used to it? i think it’s had a massive bearing, nowhere to pay cash on a match day, is quite honestly, Dam ridiculous

Which way do they want it? If the 60 second walk to the ticket office in order to purchase a ticket is too much, they really can’t be that bothered about their football & should probably stick to the armchair.

Most half decent grounds and well run clubs I’ve been to have exactly the same system and manage it just fine. Ask Man U how they get on getting 75k people through electric turnstiles....

I also remember some on here how people used to moan that some got let in for free by various grounds people and management and how it effected the gate receipts. Now we have a system that effectively stops that they are whinging that it’s too hard for them to buy a ticket..??

Would be interesting to see if other clubs gates are down too this season . Honestly I’ve got no idea Edit : I just looked it up and can’t find figures for this season but last season saw a 60 year high. Just us then. I think some people need to decide whether they want entertaining football, or effective football. I'm not sure we can have both with or current budget. I'd certainly prefer where we are now to taking a risk and spend money and end up dropping down the table. I want entertaining football for me to watch and enjoy. I want effective football for the results. I'm very unlikely to renew next season as things stand as I just dont enjoy watching us at the moment. The second half last week was the first time in a long time I have seen us attacking and "off the leash" and it was much more enjoyable to watch.

If we managed to maintain our position, and that's a big if I know, but missed out in the playoffs, would you genuinely not buy a season ticket for next year? Would tempting Hugo the younger back and him enjoying more maybe change your mind?

In the one year that Coughlan has been our manager his league record is P43 W18 D14 L11. That’s three games short of a full season and 68points. His cup record is half tidy too. P11 W6 D3 L2. And yet there’s still ‘fans’ moaning about him. His first task when he joined was to shore up the defence. This he did. Second task was to stop us being relegated, which he did. Third task was to improve our position in the league which he has. I’d be amazed if his achievements haven’t gone unnoticed by other chairmen. He lives in Sheffield apparently so any approach from around there might just turn his head. And I can’t say I would blame him if it did.

Wow, he must love commuting since he's worked at Southend and here for the last 9 years. I suppose he stays at a Travelodge in the week like Alan Partridge. I bet GC has a massive buffet plate.

Coughlan keeps all the players on a tight restricted leash and we have got results with that style. But when the team have a free reign as in the southend/portsmouth comeback games the team look much better and the fans are happier.

I think that’s a tad unfair? The owners broken promises and fictitious landing lights + the deathly silence have been the main problem. I expect that most people like me now have the hump with them.

I expect that most people like me now have the hump with them. I think you're right. Many people probably think "Gas are doing OK now, I'd start going again but I've no doubt they'll sell Clarke-Harris for peanuts and they'll drop off again. I've found other things to do now and I'm not spending my money on football until I can feel more confident they're actually going to do something"

Its not a 60 second activity though, is it?.. It takes for ever queuing up at that silly little hut behind the Thatchers End, you've got to allow a good 5-10 mins to pick up a pre-ordered ticket. That's one of the reasons I went for ST's to cut out all the hassle. I went last minute to the Swindon game in the funny cup. I bought the tickets in the club shop. There was no queue, there were only a few hundred there anyway. The printer jammed and it took so long to sort it we missed the kick-off. It it dos put people off, I'm sure of it.
