It’s never been his job from the start- and that’s from his own mouth according to someone who talked to him just after he first joined. He’s played a big role in the community engagement stuff. People got carried away and came to the conclusion that he’s been secretly organising some super-duper stadium. Spoiler alert: He hasn’t. That is lunacy if so though. He's our CEO - we better not be paying him a fat cheque to show face in schools and attend a few charity galas. The fact that he was so dismissive is infuriating too. "It's not my job"... so? You have no idea on the progress?! The Bristol Rovers CEO is unaware of any stadium/training ground progress because it's "not within his remit". Absolute farce. That’s not what he said though was it. He knows what’s going on, He replied when being asked about the training ground, but it’s not in his job remit or rather he won’t be able to wear enough hats to negotiate an investment/sale/build a stadium. He physically won’t be able to run the club and do that at the same time. I would rather Starnes ran the club and stuck to what he knows best. Talk about a completely overly emotional reaction.

"Every player has a value. If an offer came in for JCH or any other player we would have to consider what is in the best interest in the club." (FFS) Entirely reasonable for a lower league club though surely. I just hope he waits until the summer. 4th with a game in hand, we have a chance here to push for something better. Can we not say to him we will not sell you in January but we will honour your sell in the summer. Give us to the end of the season. Far as im concerned the fans have been brilliant to him, the club has given him this time to shine when he wasn't getting a look in for Coventry and now he could have a pick of clubs to choose from. Just give us 5 months loyalty until the and of the season and try and reward us with at least a top 6 finish. I actually think JCH would be ok with this. But I doubt the club would hold out until the summer and take £500k for him now.
Losing our manager and top scorer in the space of a few weeks, who have got us to 4th, would basically mean we just bent over and pulled our pants down to the rest of the league ready to be screwed each week.

Thought it was a great interview - way better than the Ghost of Christmas Past Hamer. We move on now .... I see what you've done there.... You've subliminally called Hamer a Muppet.... Not everyone's pre-eminent literary reference is the Muppet Christmas Carol, you know.

Thought it was a good interview under the circumstances! Tried to answer as much as he could. Absolutely I though very good searching questions were asked and he fielded them well - seemed a genuine response

So does anyone know if we're actually getting compensation for him?
Seems a bit odd that he's left the club, but hasn't signed for Mansfield yet?
Just doesn't sound like there was an issue of compensation being paid..

A much better interview than anything we ever got from the king of bluster and waffle Mr Steve Hamer

OK, no more drama here after the initial shock. And good interview, nothing suprising. Suspect they will take their time with successor as they did with GC confirmation and rightly too - I trust them to get on with it. All clubs tend to manage OK for a few weeks pending new manager . . .
Personally I expect we will lose some of our squad in Jan but that has always been the way. Don't like it at all but it is what it is ever since my tears when Randall left. . . I think Jakkola pretty vulnerable to a cheeky low bid as not so in demand and visible as JCH, but every bit as vital to our squad.
Hope we win tonight and see you all on Saturday! UTG

I would guess we only agreed compo this morning, hence the hastily arranged press conference and confirmation that he has gone. Now Mansfield can unveil their shiny new toy.

At last, someone has fronted up.
This saga is typical Gas though, manager gone now and it is for the best if he doesn't want to be here, i am expecting JCH at least follow in January. I simply have no belief in the owners of this club.
Hopefully the Al Qadis will be off soon, more fiasco and disappointment like this one will follow whilst they are in control.

It was only last week he was berating Southend for getting rid of him. “No man likes to go home and tell their family they have been sacked”. Especially not at Xmas time I would imagine and especially when you realise they were looking to replace you whilst you were still in the job. Football is a dog eat dog business. Is the assumption that Dunne will follow him there?

Can't understand as CEO why he was so dismissive about the stadium and the training ground as if wasn't anything to do with him, forget the stadium that's on fantasy island but the present training facilities have been heavily criticised by both DC and GC as been unacceptable. Surely the CEO has to grab hold of everyday matters and make sure the players have somewhere to train properly. Not on his remit can't be the answer, whose remit is it then. It was Hamer's remit, now it's his and TBF we already knew there are no new developments to report. We've not owned our own training ground for decades so not sure why this has become such a massive issue. Realistically, no money is going to be spent on a brand new training facilitiy at this point and rightly so IMO. Best case scenario, if the land is granted consent for residential development, it can contribute towards the cost of a new stadium project. Worst case, if the family decides to cut and run, there is another asset to realise which slightly reduces the risk of the Mem being sold. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good interview. It seems we aren't desperate to sell but, as is the case for most clubs, every player has his price (although if we are desperate to sell, he isnt going to advertise it). We might go for an internal managerial appointment but all applications will be considered (my money is on the "cheap option" explained as being in the interests of continuity). So, did GC really jump ship due to lack of investment? Inconclusive. We won't really know whether the owners are committed, treading water or bailing out completely until we see the players we are left with after the window. Ever hopeful, UTG.
