What’s the obsession on this forum with slagging off Trotman, was a key player for the first 2/3’s of the Conference season. Should always be welcomed back as a guest of the club. We only lost 3 of the 19 games Trotman played in. Now working as an agent as far as I know. Was genuinely key to turning us around. Should be treated with a hell of a lot of respect.

Another former player ,Christian Montano now playing full back was MOM for Vale yesterday. That's an interesting one. Does he have much defensive responsibility? He lacked consistent end product but could always drag the team up the pitch with a direct dribble.

What has happened to him? On our OS it says he is out on loan at Maidenhead. On their website it says he is on a season loan but it says he hasn't played for them this season. (On his Profile) He's been on the bench for the last like 2 months. Does come on occasionally late on but nowhere near the first 11. Doesn't look like we're realistically going to get rid of him on the wages he's reportedly on when he can't even make the first team of Maidenhead...

Yes, with transfer fee and wages that's a couple of hundred thousand wasted on Mensah and add to that the three to four hundred thousand on fees, wages and pay-off that Payne cost the club. I bet BG wishes that type of money is made available to him this window. Still he should know tomorrow... But we sold harrison for at least twice as much as payne cost. So maybe if garner wants to spend say £400k he needs to sell someone for at least £800k. Or continue in cup games. We made around £300k from FA cup and £100k from EFL trophey. If we were to win our next two . We collect another £200k plus gate money . We could be in a position next week netting in total £600k plus . But who believes we can win both ?

(On his Profile) Non-league websites (in particular) don't always keep such stats up-to-date. Often run by volunteers / busy staff, and often the website template / supplier is 'forced' on them, meaning they look the same, but often suffers from a lack of 'ownership' from within the club. One brilliant way to keep up-to-date with ALL former Rovers players, and also current players out on loan, is our weekly feature entitled 'Looking For Gas' where Keith Brookman's trawls through literally hundreds of websites and team sheets and brings you all the news of goals, appearances, moves, injuries, babies being born, birthdays and even, sadly, some deaths. All on our website for FREE, and also advertised via twitter and facebook. We often also source photo from their current clubs, such as this one. It's a very, very good read / research. Neal was a genuinely decent player and really looked secure until his injury, which also sadly forced him out of the game he loved.

Exactly, a player that literally ended his career trying to help us.

Some non league gambles work. Some don't. Mensah was in the second category. I use the past tense because he will never play for Rovers again.

Every player is a gamble; non-league that can’t step up, higher league on the way down, too young and lacking experience, old and wise but slowing down, coming back from long term injury, overseas but homesick, etc, etc. Even if you are spending millions you can’t predict the future however if you haven’t got the cash (like us) you can lower the risk by managers working with players they know and developing the youth team which is exactly what we are doing. That’s why, in my opinion, the scouting at BRFC is crucial to our ability to stay in this league and hopefully progress. Exactly. I hope Mensah will not be used as an example not to look at the best talent in non league. But remembering TWs interview I suspect we are much more thorough in our recruitment now. UTG!

As for Neal Trotman I think it was at Eastleigh when we had Mildenhall sent off and then Ollie C (?) sent off to finish with 9 he was immense to help us get a 1-1. Have always said that that match convinced me we would get back into the FL at our first attempt. Trotman played a big part up until Christmas if my memory serves me correctly. UTG!

I was stood directly behind Ollie's line of shot as he thumped that 30-yarder left-footed into the top bins - hell of a goal. As for Trotman, I largely recall his spell with us as a success bar the absolutely atrocious debut away at Barnet when we lost 2-0.
