First, let me start by saying, my thoughts and prayers are with Ben. Regardless of my thoughts on his start to his managerial career, this transcends far beyond this - it's only a game after all.
Maher is obviously in temporary charge for the foreseeable future. But I wonder what will happen now in respect of signings etc? Presumably Ben has/had a list and there may have also been "irons in the fire". But it's an odd one I guess. Maher's approach may be entirely different to Ben's, meaning that the player's Ben may have wanted to bring in may not fit how Maher would like us to setup and play. Unless they happen to have the same philosophy, it's at the very least going to rock the boat (Maher taking the team in a different direction already) or is going to force Maher to play in a way he doesn't want/isn't comfortable with.
Crikey, we really are in a mess here - certainly never dull with Rovers!
I think Maher may try to get us playing more like GC did, which may well stop our slide down the table. But it's going to be interesting (or more likely disappointing!) from a recruitment perspective. Hopefully Ben had a list and Tommy W was the one driving the recruitment, in which case perhaps in can pretty much continue as it would have done.

This is Rovers, we thrive on adversity. Time to circle the wagons. Everyone has a part to play,

I am sure there will be some contact with Ben during his enforced leave and i would think that those left to hold the reigns will try and carry out Bens wishes as far as off field issues are concerned , TW must be aware of Bens thoughts and plans re recruitment and will continue to pursue those players Ben has on his radar, on field then Kevin will have license to react to game situations as he sees fit.

I have given lot of thought to the situation we find ourselves in and now my head hurts.

There's going to be a lot of questions without many answers! After GC left, I would have been happy to see Maher put in charge until at least the end of the season. That didn't happen, and now bizarrely he is back in the caretaker role.
Judging by the two games after GC left (Plymouth & Peterborough) there wasn't much change in tactics or personnel. Which is one of the reasons why I would have been happy if it stayed like that for the remainder of the season.
Now we have had BG trying to bring his own style which he would have had the coaches helping him with. So do they stick to this and try and continue or do they go back to the old way of trying to grind results out?
Regarding transfers, I don't think Maher will have too much involvement. BG and TW would have had a shortlist of the type of players they were after and I assume TW will continue with trying to bring some of these in. I also suspect nothing will change to those who have been told they are free to leave because we probably cannot get anyone else in, until some of these players leave anyway.

I expect Maher to go back to basics and the style that was working pre-GC leaving. He has managerial ambitions as he stated when he last managed the squad, and will want this to be a successful period.

Its not like BG is in an underground bunker. I expect he has given instructions on how he wants the team setup to play initially, but what happens in the 90 mins would be up to Maher for sure.

That surely depends what type of compassion leave he's been granted? Full leave with no contact with his employers like most of us would get in similar circumstance, or one where he remains in contact. Perhaps the best outcome for all concerned is the former until the summer so Maher can just get on with the job? Trying to manage it like BG would w/o him actually being around would seem a bit of a nightmare to me.

Back to how we were set up and playing up to the Ipswich game hopefully. Agreed. It goes without saying that I echo the sentiments in the OP with respect to Garner’s personal situation. One hopes though that in his absence we can try and re-visit the Peterborough performance and hopefully get back to winning ways.

Oh that sounds serious, I missed the posts from yesterday which is probably a good thing.
Yes back to basics in this interim with someone who knows the players is best, but will that mean another transition period when BG returns and tries to implement his own style? Guess that would depend if and when he returns...

With regards to transfers it seems Garner & Widderington have already agreed in principle who they would like in and who they wish to see go out. So it seems Tommy W is dealing with all this in BG's absence. I'm sure BG will be kept informed.
