Was it as much as £2.5m in the end? If so not too bad then all things considered, but even then it could have been more. I thought the initial £1.1m was too low. That’s what we got up front. Then there was add on for appearances, goals scored, promotions, sell on and then the England call up. All told we got around £2.5m total. No chance, where have you got this from ?

having a laugh aren’t you Other than Matty and Billy tell me any other player we’ve sold and not got a good price for? I know he ran down his contract, but Locks leaving on a free was a crime. We should have got 7 figures for him and didn’t have the nous to tie him down to a long term contract when we could have done. Could also argue that we should have got a decent fee for Brown, who I believe was allowed to leave for free.

Ins A couple of Strikers, maybe on loan like: Folarin Balogun (Arsenal), Ryan Edmundson (Leeds), Ryan Cassidy (Watford), George Hirst (Leicester), Jamie Soule (West Brom), Jay Stansfield (Fulham), Ellis Simms (Everton). A Right Back like Luther Wilson from Stevenage, or someone on loan like: Ethan Laird (Man Utd), Vontae Daley-Campbell (Leicester), Kayne Ramsay (Southampton), Jude Russell (Crystal Palace), Cody Drameh (Fulham), Henry Lawrence (Chelsea), Cameron Coxe (Cardiff). A deep lying playmaker like George Glendon from Chester, or someone on loan like: Dylan Levitt (Man Utd), Miguel Azeez (Arsenal), Jake Cain (Liverpool), Harvey White (Tottenham), George Moncur (Luton), Callum Slattery (Southampton), Joe Adams (Brentford) these names just roll off the tongue, don't they ? Hundreds of games experience too ! All quality.

All kids, hardly what we need after a 10+ game winless streak! Kids though eh. Every German club is scouting English youngsters because the youngsters cannot get games. Look at Jadon Sanchez. Couldn't get a game at Man City and now worth 100m at Dortmund? Phil Foden can't get a game. These are the kids who are expected to be the stars of the future, so there must be a whole host of other youngsters who are not at the very top level who can't get games. It's only right that we should be looking to get some in on loan (as I doubt we could afford to buy them).

Out of interest, how much did we sell Agogo for? I said sell though, we didn’t sell them because the previous manager let them get to the end of their contract. I also think the board should have overruled him and either sold them over his head as it’s their asset or offered a new contract over his head. I suspect they have learned from that situation and the reason they didn’t go over his head is because they knew he had them over a barrel in the local press etc

Historically we've always been excellent for getting value out of our assets, that approach has seemingly gone to pot the last decade.

The reason we let Bodin & Taylor go on the cheap was because of poor contract management, which is the same as Brown & Lockyer. The board wouldn't have accepted £450k for Bodin if he had 2 years on his contract, it's because of the fear that we'll get nothing for him in 6 months. But yes, I do agree it seems that the board have hopefully learned from this.

There is poor contract management and there is a player simply not wanting to sign
Even if we could offer Lockyer £10k a week, if he doesn't want to sign a contract you can't make him.
He wanted to move on to try and plat at a higher lever and improve his international chances. I don't know who or if TL had/has an agent and I am sure TL was bright enough to know he was a better investment (or gamble) for a club as a free agent and he would get the wages as well as the potential opportunity
Can Rovers have been better with contracts? Yes, but you can't blame them for everything. Surprisingly, people have minds of their own

Yes, but you can't blame them for everything. Surprisingly, people have minds of their own Sure, but the point is sorting it out before we get to that point. DC said with Brown that he thought he was coming in for a contract extension. The club were surprised by Lockyer's decision on the last day of the season. Because we left it too late, we got £0 for both of them. Taylor was given a contract presumably when we got promoted from L2 like everyone else? Why was it only a year?! If he signed one before L2 promotion, we should have been looking to extend his contract earlier as we knew we would want to keep him. Bodin we can probably say fair enough (within reason) as the club opened talks in September, but he said no. Although I've heard that was DC's fault because he wouldn't offer him over £2.5k a week or something, but unsure how true that is - either way, it happened at the club and we're responsible for it. I actually am impressed that for once, we tried extending JCH's contract before having less than a year left - we're actually learning from our mistakes, finally! If the bloke says no, then sell him and get our face value. If we start our contract talks earlier then we at least know where we stand and can make better strategic decision making on players.
