I must say that I honestly can't see the change of playing plan leading to anything other than a successful fight against relegation because with a 40% possession 6 shots at goal of which only two were on target and only 3 corners in the match hardly represents a good home performance against any team let alone a Fleetwood team who are probably correctly placed in mid table. I have no problem whatsoever with a back four set up which for me represents a set up which should cut out the high number of goals conceded recently where the wingers have cut inside and outside and provided far too many anxious moments. However everything else about the plan worries me at the present time and could adversely affect our status. The one up front backed up by wingers/midfielders requires a centre forward who can hold the ball up and release it accurately firing on all cylinders. Clarke-Harris is far from this at the present time and there is still the possibility he will go in this window leaving us with no natural leader of the attack and with a formation that relies so heavily on this you really need two of your five strikers to be built to do this. Add to this I really can't see where the next goal is going to come from as we also do not possess a regular goalscorer in our ranks with only Gavin Reilly seemingly being considered following both loaned strikers going back and Nichols considered not part of the Managers plans.
Support is going down at the present time and it is hardly surprising with six shots at goal being an improvement on most of the matches since GC left. A point against Fleetwood is not a disaster but playing this way is also going to make it a struggle to beat even the worst teams in this divisions. The midfield players are probably as big a problem as the strikers with none other than Ginnelly and Rodman having any pace whatsoever and the others look bewildered at the present time as to what exactly they each should be doing. Blackman 7 Looks a good keeper. Much quicker off his line and good distribution and the defence finally looked confident again and restricted a strong Fleetwood forward line to very little,
Kilgour 6.5 a solid game in a new position to him and hopefully it won't be long before Little is challenging him for that place Davies 6.5 A little rusty at times but that is to be expected after so long a lay off and it is great to have him back. Craig 7 MOM back to his best after a recent lull in his performances and led the back four well and kept Ched Evans very quiet. Holmes-Dennis 6.5 Like Davies a little rusty but he is one hell of a talented full back if we can get him playing regularly and I am sure if that happens we will see many frays into the opposition half rather than just a couple.
Upson 5.5 Not one of his better games but not at all helped by the fact that all the midfield players are similar in their qualities and this was made worse when Ogogo came on and restricted our attacking threat even more. Clarke 5 Similar to Upson but it is good to have him back to provide competition but three defensive midfielders on the pitch at the same time with only one forward up front is not going to provide entertainment or I believe get us the results we need.
Sercombe 6 Not on his best form and being played in a position where you would think he could get shots in but he failed to do this yesterday. We don't really have another like him so I hope his injury is not serious as his absence without replacement would hamper us. Barrett 5.5 I like the look of him but not in the position he is being played. with the loss of a bit of excess weight he could be the creative midfielder we are looking for and the right age. Ginnelly 6 Another I really like the look of. He has the skill and pace to excite but what we lack at the present time is the player to give him the ball more often. He was much better first half than second half where either he tired or just didn't get given the ball.
Clarke-Harris 5 Another disappointing performance and anybody that tells me it was a good penalty they are having a laugh. Any penalty that hits the keepers foot is a poor penalty and I have to9 say that I was not confident that he would score as he has been so poor recently. To be fair he got little of the protection that the referee gave to the Fleetwood players where every touch seemed to bring a free kick. IMO we should only get rid of him in this window if the price is right and that for me is an absolute minimum of 2m with so long left on his contract. whether he stays or goes we must sign a replacement plus at least one other striker.
Subs: Ogogo 4 very rusty and struggled to get possession and made us even more defensive. Reilly 4 Totally lost in a short appearance. Rodman 6 Gave us a bit more width and a bit more attacking threat and won the penalty.
Crowd 5 Quiet but tried hard to get behind the team but in fairness the entertainment is missing. Ref 2 This was more about what he missed than what he gave. Terrible. Fleetwood 5 an average League 1 side with some good players attacking wise.
BG Early days but has a tough job IMO to make us an entertaining side. There were glimpses in the first half of what he is trying to do but just not in a large supply.
We move on to the next stage of Ben Garners reign on Tuesday but to be honest I do not see even the mediocre Bolton team bringing us the much needed victory and the best I can see is a 0-0 draw. I would say that 46 points will be enough to stay up this year and the quicker we get there the better but I can see it being mainly reached with one point returns unless we can obtain two aces in the next week.

JCH, like Nichols at Donny, took the easy option penalty widewise, can't blame them really when it's so long since they scored and their confidence must be shot.
If we play with JCH, or his replacement if he goes this week, upfront on his own it's going to a long end to the season, with sooner or later the Mem atmosphere getting toxic. The number of good home wins in the last 18 months can be counted on one hand?

Craig wasn't the best player wearing quarters yesterday.

Might be on my own but am buying into what BG is trying to do, he needs a while to get the right players in, to fit the plans he has. The crowds stayed away when we were top 6, think it needs some good communication from the top to reignite others enthusiasm for the Gas, silence is deafening. Need to get a few out the door to get more in.

Disagree with your title. Everything to look forward to. I enjoyed the game yesterday, it was a good 0-0 as they go.
Garner is on a rebuild because, as I've said elsewhere, what we were doing was unsustainable. He's trying to turn us into footballing side and I applaud him for that and look forward to the games ahead.
Some people on here seem to enjoy the doom and gloom periods and are totally incapable of being positive.
Back this, turn up and support what Garner is trying to do.

We have had a tough run of fixtures along with all the manager upheaval and several injuries. All that together means we are not picking up the points. Of course Steve, we should be doing more and creating more at home especially. Fleetwood were another very well -organised team, who can also play a bit. They've only lost 7 this season and you could see why. And yet if the pen had been tucked a way we would have had 3 pts. I would expect us to get some wins against teams in the bottom half of the table and when we can get a settled 11 on the pitch we can also turn over some of the big boys. There were a few promising signs out there - Davies, new keeper, Ginnelly's pace to utilise. But somebody in the Taylor mould upfront would be great !

So when do you think our next win is coming against a bottom half team? Bolton totally outplayed us at home, Tranmere away won't be easy, Shrewsbury are usually also well marshalled, not until we play Rochdale at home on 28 March do any games against bottom half sides look any easier than yesterday's opponents. Not even sure Taylor would have made much difference yesterday as he would have most likely been played instead of Barrett in a deep lying No 10 position.

think rest of season is one of trial error to find the players to fit BG s plans, make take a while but believe he will get there, far as i am concerned he has a free hit as we aint going up or down, and we will be right for next season, up the Rovers.

I thought first half we gave it a bit of a go and one of my mates on the other side of the ground texted me at half time to say he actually saw the green shoots of football appearing. 2nd half not so good, but JCH’s poor form is not helping and we have no one else on the bench to replace him with. I am willing to give Garner a go and hope he get some more strength in depth we desperately need. I was never convinced by GC,s the 11 that have the shirt.

I thought we played some very good football in spells. You can see how BG wants us to play, the problem is not having the complete set of players to do it. This will come in time. As mentioned RE: the crowd figure. Gasheads were staying away whilst we were rampant & sitting 4th, what chance does any manager have of that changing during a period of transition?
Very much looking forward to a trip to Bolton this coming Tuesday and a very much needed first win.

I agree over giving BG time to change things but would like to see him play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 with us pressurising teams in their half of the pitch and in doing so create a lot more chances. We must get out of allowing teams to run unchallenged to the half way line and front players just wasting their fitness running from one player to another with the midfield far behind them.

What I fail to understand is how dysfunctional playing as a Team we have become. Surely if we had no-one managing the Team and they just had a selection and playing plan arrived at among themselves, we should expect a minimum of 5 shots on target and about double that off target. Currently it is difficult to identify us as a functional Team yielding close to zero. We probably had better stats with our relegation Teams. Has Ben Garner caused us to freeze, which would be some feat to achieve in such a short space of time. I have no confidence in his ability to organise the Players to play even the most basic standard of football and I had such high hopes that he had the credentials to do it. As of now, there is not even a glimmer on the horizon.

Thanks for the report Steve. Agreed that Craig was MoM - but others will differ. Those who say that Craig can't play in. back 4 are wrong. It all depends who partners up with him in the centre of defence. What is patently clear is a that he can't play full back (any more) and should not be ever deployed in that position.

Thanks for the report Steve. I for one was given hope by that performance. You could see glimpses of what Garner is trying to do and let's hope he can get his style imposed as soon as possible.
Thought Barrett was worth more than a 5.5. Has a bit about him and can see him being the creative midfielder we've been crying out for

I agree about the penalty it was poor and listening to BG comments after the match I am sure he was watching a different game to us. The only positive out of this game was a clean sheet

JCH is far far away from being a 2 million pound player. Taking half of that would be good business. Sell why he has some value and before he returns to the form that had him sat in Coventry reserves. Rovers need the money and other similar players are out there at much cheaper prices. This smacks of the delusional figure placed on Tom Lockyer... again often quoted as not less than 2 million, we should have let him go for a quarter of the price instead he left for nothing. A million for JCH and it should be a done deal!
