Is our only hope now Omicron not being as deadly as Delta? Looks like it’s going to rip through the whole world like the original variant! I guess that the natural evolution of a virus is to mutate into a strain that is more transmissible and less deadly (killing your host is not ideal for the virus) It's still bad though. I don't know what the metrics on deaths per infection are for any of the variants, but you would have to weigh the benefit of Omicron being less deadly up against the fact it is more transmissible (the more people who get it, the more that could suffer serious reactions to it). Not to mention the risk of more mutations the more it is passed around. But presumably more people will also build natural resistance to it?

So either the T-Cell/Antibody immunity wears off over time or the newer strains can get round natural immunities to previous versions

Immunity will drop off after infection and it will mutate each season. Our best hope is that it keeps getting really mild at this point

Nothing to see here, just a coincidence.

All well and good, until the next variant. And the next. Beginning to think we ought to deal with this as best we can and get on with it.

All well and good, until the next political setback. And the next. Beginning to think we ought to deal with this as best we can and get on with it. Amended, free of charge. 😇

Tell that to the 800 people going to hospital every day. Variants do get weaker, but they can also get stronger. Unfortunately we don’t have the data yet to know if those who’re vulnerable are still vulnerable with Omicron. If they are then less symptoms is awful news as it’s going to spread more. If they aren’t then it would be good news. Best to be on the side of caution without fully understanding.

Hospitalisations up 29% in London in a week . You’ve been wrong every step of this pandemic yet you still spout your utter drivel. Absolute bloody muppet.

Interested to know many people have caught Covid in hospital vs being admitted because of it? What we do know from government data is that the vast majority of people are absolutely fine when they catch it and the statistics for the average age of people dieing with it is factually higher than the average life expectancy itself.
