when you are on a losng run the first thing you do is shore up the defence, and Garner should go back to playing 5 at the back. It worked with the players we have and it's obvious we don't have the players to play a flat back 4

Weve played a back 5 several times since Garner took over- didnt look any better.
Move on.

Simple question. How is it that the same defensive players playing the same system (ie 5 at the back) are performing much worse under BG than they did under GC?

Because GC was a defensive coach first and formost and knew how to drill his players and inspire then on in games. While BG is an ex premiership youth team coach that wants to bring in the premiership style of play that you at see on fotball manager into L1 quality players.

ISTR second home game in charge, BG had the wingbacks lining up on the shoulders of the opposing full backs. Be amazed if GC ever asked for that.

I'd put a large part of it down to Jaakola. I'd also suggest Rollins form was naturally dropping off. After that I'd say GC was a decent defensive coach.

Under GC we played retreat and the midfield sat deep and made a big unit with the defence, I think that made a difference, now BG is trying to expand the midfield and make them into more of an attacking force the defence whether it be 4 or 5 don’t have that same deep laying midfield to support them. Personally I got sick of seeing our midfield stay so deep for large parts of the game but maybe we’re now seeing why? Cuz it’s undeniable we have a distinct lack of pace at CB and CM, GC I think as boring as I found it learned how to work with what he had, and where I think we’ll see more attractive modern style football under BG I just don’t think he has the players yet to make it really work. That of course is just my view of it
