First victory. The heavy weight off our backs.
Increasingly good possession stats.
But few goals scored.
JCH not at his best.
Who knows?
You do!

I may have lost the plot but I voted playoffs! I have a feeling we will be back in contention for one of those spots after our next six games UTG

From where we are now very few really honestly thinks we could get to play offs and certainly not automatics. It would be a remarkable achievement. Here’s dreaming.

Imagine if we now went on a 15 game unbeaten run?
I have to say, yesterday was the first time I dared look at the table for fear of depressing myself even further and I was shocked to see Oxford in 11th and Ipswich 7th. They must have had terrible runs as well.

One swallow doesn't make a summer, although it may very well make your day! On Saturday we beat an out of form team which had been reduced to 10 men with 2 late 2nd half goals, one of which was a wind-assisted worldie and the other a twice deflected shot that trickled past a wrong-footed keeper. Even then JCH did his best to help them out with a ridiculous piece of falling over which fooled no-one and almost led to an injury time equaliser. Next Saturday we travel away to the leagues in-form side. I am going and my only hope is that we don't get stuffed. A narrow loss will be good as far as I can see.
It's where we are I'm afraid.

There were 2 teams out there, playing the conditions, it seemed we played them best. Hardly our fault their player got a deserved red card, we can only play what's out there. I'd rather we have good than no luck, and no, we didn't win because we were lucky, we won because we were better, simples.

I've also gone mid table - lower section, but miles above relegation zone.
I'm more excited about next season than this. We had a chance with GC at play off football. That's gone for a multitude of reasons. It's history.
I'm right behind BG. He wants us to play rhe game in a certain style, which to be honest, we haven't seen for quite a few years. The key for me will be this summer's recruitment and retention activity. Some players will have to go because they simply do not fit into his style. No point keeping them. The one exception is the player who will have another year on his crazy contract. He has no intention of going anywhere and nobody wants him.
Regarding recruitment - please no journeymen. All players coming in should be excellent L1 calibre or youngsters with massive potential. Above all, players with the right attitude who will play their hearts out for the quarters. The sort of attitude both DC (early years) and GC cultivated in their teams.
At present, subject to fitness,we are very strong in certain areas eg in goal, central defence and upfront. That is the nucleus of a promotion winning team.

Where i always thought we would finish, safe mid table which i believe represents satisfactory progress despite our flirtation with the top 6, we will be in good position to mount sustained challenge next season, its interesting to note that of the teams that came up with us only the runaway champions have been relegated.

Get the bus out of the garage, put some air in the tyres (or at least put some wheels on), charge the battery and get rid of the chickens roosting in the back. Best get some windows put in as well otherwise it'll get blowy and cold on those long trips for the European games coming up.

We wouldn't have had that luck if the ball had been in our own half. The red card wouldn't have been issued had we been defending our own goal and not attacking the wing, and we also wouldn't have had two "lucky" goals if Alfie and then JCH (and JG) hadn't been in a clear shooting position. Having said that I totally agree that one swallow doesn't make a summer.

Mid table finish and at the start I think I’d have been happy with that. We were never top 6 and unlikely to be bottom 4 or 3 esp after the mess up by the EFL in August over Bury and Bolton which has really taken away any integrity to this league this season. GC did a great job with what he had and he had us dreaming but reality has bitten and we are where we probably deserve to be. Big difference is with GC we were fairly strong defensively with little forward threat as opposed to now where we are posing more of a threat up front but at the expense of defensive solidarity. The top of table teams will be able to achieve both. We can’t atm. UTG!
