We could be forgiven for going out of business when we moved to Twerton but the amazing way the Directors, Management,Players and Fans responded was truly a miracle.

And we still have portakabins at a temporary training ground. Great video though, used to love Saint and Greavsie.

To borrow a very famous phrase 'It was the best of time, it was the worst of times', or was it the other way round?, anyway i look back on our time at Twerton with great affection , it was astonishing what we achieved there, don't think the club has ever been so united before or since , when i read of the disharmony on here now it only emphasises how united we all were under the most trying of circumstances, its only now you realise just what we were up against and typical Rovers, we only go and turn it into one of the most successful periods in our history 'unbelievable Geoff' to use another not quite so famous quote! and while we are at it give that gong to the country's greatest ever striker, arise Sir Jimmy!

As the memory fades I seem to recall in the early days we played homes games on the friday and sunday. Pretty sure that I attended at least one game on a Saturday evening? Does that ring a bell with anyone else?

Wonderful to see my old friend Ray Kendall again, that was emotional and yes kids, the manager really was discussing playing Bristol City in a league game.

Remember first going to Twerton and thinking we are finished. There were some difficult times over there, but also a period of amazing success. Promotion, play-offs, cup game with Liverpool and some great victories over City, not least the 3 nil thumping in 1990. I don’t think we have anyone like Ray at the club anymore.

Met Ray at Twerton when I accompanied the ref and Ray took drink orders for after the game.As a true Bristolian he wrote down 4 Largers. My favourite Ray story was when the coach driver got lost taking the team to Luton. Ray phoned the police to ask for directions as people outside had started to pay attention to the coach and those inside. The police asked Ray where he was and his reply was "By the microwave"

I loved stories that Gerry would say like if they played well in an away game they would stop off at a chip shop on the way home and he would treat them to fish and chips. Its no wonder we all related to them in those days.

Twerton should be looked back on with affection. The facilities for supporters and players alike were truly very basic. But that ground became a fortress for Rovers. No away team wanted to play there and that suited Rovers just fine.

My best memories of Rovers are at Twerton Park. We were skint , homeless and determined. That real in the trenches spirit and none of the entitled crap that you hear from supporters so much these days.

One of my funny memories of twerton was a game against walsall the year they were going up, cant remember which season. They had a massive flag hanging at the back of the away terrace, i was stood on the home terrace admiring this flag when whos head pops up above the wall, a certain kevin jenkins, and he starts pulling this flag up the wall.Well as soon as the walsall fans realized the flag was getting nicked they started pulling it back and yep it split right down the middle, we won 3 nil but i didnt see kevin again that day,sad to say like a lot of the old boys no longer with us.

When the Crewe Goalie got injured at Twerton they brought a sub on who had this amazing afro hairstyle. The ensuing chorus included the phrase,'He's got a pineapple on his head' which he took in good spirit. Another keeper chorus was at Nuneaton where they had a Ginger Haired loanee from Barnsley in goal wearing a Pink jersey.'Ginger and Pink ,you're having a laugh' rang out to the tune of Lily the pink.We outnumbered their fans that day.

I was at Nuneaton and that is one of the funniest chants I have heard at a Rovers game. It was freezing cold that day and so foggy that you could barely see over the half way line. Think we won 2-0.
