As we have nothing to moan about on a Saturday for a few weeks thought it might be fun to create a natch day thread from a game against the relevant opposition from the past. Have chosen the 4th round cup tie Feb 78, plenty of info out there for the young uns to get hold of and contribute and for us oldies the memories come flooding back! game was very controversial so plenty of scope for post match anger and debate, just like now a days! think it may have gone something like this
Right gas eds ,big game today , first question ,will it be on, any pitch inspection due? if it goes ahead we have every chance of creating upset, no pressure on us as we sit comfortable mid table against struggling first division Town. Conditions could suit us and reckon we could do it ! 3-1 Gas , Bobby dazzler hattrick! up the Rovers! see you in the true blue!

Is this the game we had cashley in goal and their late winner went in off the crossbar then hit him on the back before going in? And we lost 2-1

Sorry to water on your bonfire but it was the 5th round, we beat Southampton 2 - 0 in the 4th with a certain Mr Randall getting them both. 😁

Rovers were walking it, all over Ipswich, not surprising, Rovers were their bogey side with a 2 to 1 win record over them. Then the ref disallowed a perfectly good Bobby Gould goal. They got a jammy equaliser near the end.

Funnily enough I seem to remember we beat Sunderland away in the 3rd Round ....1.0 away In those days the 3rd round draw was done on the Saturday night after the 2nd round matches. On the day we were drawn away at Sunderland we lost 5-1 at Roker Park I bet the players were really looking forward to a return up north

Never liked ipswich since that day, robbed in that game and just to rub salt into the wound the sods beat arsenal in the final, always had a soft spot for norwich ever since.

Remember standing to the side of the Tote end in what was I believe the cow shed! Remember getting the the Stapleton Road connection train from Templemeads having travelled from Weston with my old man. I was 12 years old, my old man was a baggies fan but must have had a bet on the dogs in the morning and treated me. The smell of tobacco smoke and double diamon beer. The teenagers wearing flairs (that's not smoke bombs but trousers). Men with long hair and bald blokes wearing caps! I could not feel my feet from the snow on the ground. We were robbed that day, Bobby Gould did score that goal. These memories reinforce the love of the GAS.
