Yes, I saw that story earlier. Great chance for a design incorporating the quarters and a Pirate figure?

I can bet you that whatever design the young pirates would come up with would be better than the uninspiring offering the away shirt competition had at the start of the season.

The competition was a no contest. The grey effort with black sash would be superb. With Thatchers taking up the main sponsorship for both home AND away shirts next season, it would be an all time best seller without question.

Thatchers taking up main sponsorship, is that happening then or just something you would like to see?

My error, it’s purely a wish of mine, as I think it would look extremely smart. On the front of our home shirt especially.

Sure fire way to get our away performances to nose dive. Not very visible. Same problem we had with purple stripes.

Arguably, the worst crop in our history.

Out of 50 points 36 earned at home - ten wins that's a 43.5% win rate at home. 14 points on the road all season - only two wins that's an 8.7% win rate away. Terrible away form. The shirt is the main variable there.

Obviously I don't completely disagree with you, that would be daft. But look at those stats! Like a different team home and away. If we'd matched our home form on the road we'd have finished 5th! I'm convinced that shirt was a factor. Antonio has a great photo that illustrates it perfectly. Both Man Utd and England ditched grey shirts for exactly the same reason. It would look lovely from a fan-wear perspective though.

Indeed, the United shirt was a monstrosity. However, England wore ‘grey’ three times in 1996 and didn’t lose a game, excluding anything after extra time of course. It was always more of an ‘indigo blue’ for me, a lovely away strip.

I really liked the purple striped kit, looked smart but that picture of us away at Pompey pretty much summed up why we weren’t any good in it. Impossible to spot the players as they blended in so well with the dark background of the stands.

Similar grey/blue for England in 1993. Both good in the pub terrible on the pitch for my money.
