Wondered how many watched Channel 4 today showing England's World Cup win in full? (pity it was not all in colour). For us oldies who were around then, where did you watch it,if you did. I was in my teens and on holiday with mates in Lloret de Mar in Spain. I was the only football fan amongst us so watched it in a local bar while my mates were on the beach. Bar was full of English and German fans,a great atmosphere as I remember(& friendly!)even though the commentary was in Spanish, I can still remember the dispair when the Germans equalised in the last minute, but the absolute joy when Geoff' Hurst scored his hat trick goal in extra time! Later in the evening even the non football fans were out in the streets celebrating, and calling out the players names. The pubs and bars doing a roaring trade. A day I will never forget. Will we EVER win the World Cup again!

That world cup was interesting to me because it seemed to mark the transition between the old 2-3-5 formations, baggy shorts and a swift fag at half time, and the modern game of 4-4-2, 4-3-3 etc, better exercise and diet and big wages and rock star fame.

I remember it well. It was a great time. Watched it at home and I remember the whole competition better than any other one. I’m afraid our chance to win it was a couple of years ago. It was our chance with most of the other top teams out of it. UTG!

What memories!, couldn't watch last couple minutes so went outside pacing up and down, then my sister pokes her head out the window and shouts ,'they've scored', who? says I, 'Germany' she says ! with a little smirk, her not being a footie fan! i could have throttled her! so deflated at that moment, but all's well that ends well and off we go with a pub crawl through the villages of South Gloucestershire, car horns blazing! celebrations were wild for the time but would be considered tame by todays standards. Will we win it again, well pre Southgate i would have said no, never as to many egos among players, but Southgate has restored, and instilled a lot more belief and togetherness in squads and public, so you never know, think we let a tremendous opportunity slip through our fingers last time out though.
