That's exactly it. Having the light shone on them has forced them back under a stone.

Very sad. MPs should be able to debate and disagree regardless of party.
The whip system is bad for democracy and I personally thought seeing top politicians properly debate on their own merits and principles was good for us plebs.
The party system is a farce anyway.

Sadly I agree with that last sentence. However I have no idea what to replace it with.

Sadly I agree with that last sentence. However I have no idea what to replace it with. It should go to GE. I believe it always should when a PM resigns/fired/forced to quit. And yes, before FG asks - the same should have happened when Blair went.

The last round gave:
Sunak - 101 Mordaunt - 83 Truss - 64 Badenoch - 49 Tugendhat - 32 Braverman - 27
I reckon Braverman's support will mostly go to Truss and Tugendhat will lose another 8 to Mordaunt and Sunak evenly.
My guess for tonight is:
Sunak - 107 Mordaunt - 90 Truss - 85 Badenoch - 51 Tugendhat - 24
Then Tugendhat's supporters will mainly back Mordaunt while Badenoch's will mainly go to Truss, meaning Truss just beats Mordaunt.
We'll see. 👀

Sunak remains the least incompetent of the lot and fairly plausible, still not sure the membership will take to him. They could be persuaded by the volume of MPs supporting them but Truss has long been a favourite, only beaten recently by Ben Wallace. Kemi Badenoch looks likely to go next, where she and her support go will determine Truss or Mordaunt takes on Sunak in the run off.

She’ll get a cabinet seat in the shady deal . The Tory party will lurch even further to the right and Francegas will still be waving his flag in support.
