We are the post-post-industrial economy nowadays.
Admittedly we make £££s from making weapons, selling life-saving drugs at a bit of a markup, and coin it in from gambling with other people's money on the stock markets, but apart from that we leave the humdrum business of running the country to others and outsource everything to foreign companies. We used to employ foreign workers to man the desks and factories of these foreign owned conglomerates, but we stopped all that nonsense post-Brexit and now we seem to be having some issues.
This is global capitalism, which other counties take a pinch of, but which the UK dives into like it's the only answer to survival.
Maybe the whole world will look like the UK economy one day.

Sounds like the energy companies might have gift wrapped a plan for the incoming PM
Freezing prices at the current rate for 2 years with a pot filled up by investors paid back over 10-15 years.

Good grief there's some nonsense posted on the other forum, but this from Basel takes the biscuit.
Apparently immigrants are flooding onto our beaches with the sole aim of robbing us all.
And people believe this??. Obviously they do.

What stops Labour from having a majority will be the SNP in Scotland. Still time, but she will have to up her game in the next 18 months or so. |

Partially my fault as my personal disgust for what Basel writes got the better of me and I allowed myself to comment accordingly on the main football segment and was accused of "trolling". I made two more posts and was banned, after a PM exchange with the mods where I said I would continue to call him out. |

I pop across occasionally to see, I suspect it'll get even quieter on the politics threads without Oldie's challenges. I get the impression they tend to be more of the 1970s attitude (consciously or willfully) so don't see the subtext. |
