New bbc chairman has donated over £400k to the Conservative party . Wonder what Oldgas thinks of this left wing bias? Does that preclude him from the job? No , but the continuous ranting of bbc left wing bias should finally be put to bed. Not that it was ever there. Just means things shift further to the right or could do. Why else install a Tory donor ?

He might just have been appointed because he's good at his job ,being a donor to any party doesn't mean you cant act with independence and integrity.

Hes got to be hoping he will pass the screening from the director General of the BBC, former conservative councillor and party chairman, Tim Davie.

You might have a valid point , but there again it’s sort of a teeny weeny coincidence don’t you think ? All the 1000s they could of picked from ....and would you believe it? They picked the bloke who handed them 400k! just another in a long line with this current mob just read..... he was also chairman of his local conservative association in the 90s ......

But There is something very uncomfortable about the appointment of the Head of the BBC being made by the Government, any Government. The danger inherent with that happening is very real.

Absolutely correct Les,it should be an independent transparent process. We do need to get away from the view though that only Tories are capable of political manipulation.

Dont get me wrong I am not one bit a Trump supporter but if Boris did say that look at the year he said it! Had Boris said it in the past day or two then yes certainly ridicule him, he doesn't have crystal ball. Yes it would be a joke if Trump got a peace prize, just like it was when Obama was awarded it and just like it was an insult to the fallen Britsh Soldiers and their families when Blair became peace envoy to the Middle East!

Boris is such a visionary. The only thing he can see in the future is who's knickers he can worm his way in to.

He said it during Trump presidency . At which point he’d of already of known he was a racist , sexist , misogynistic , untrustworthy , tax dodger and all round scumbag . Most of us knew all this even before he got elected.

Isn't that the whole point of politics in this country, and most others? Not on this scale in the uk & USA Ofc UK and then US set the bench mark over the last 200 years or so. But where theres power you'll find corruption. Our special brand of democracy very attractive to elite rulers around the world, most have copied it.
