You beat me to it! It’s been costed at < £6 in Lidl so that’s some profit margin at £30 a package that the tax payer is paying for. Apparently it’s supplied by a division of Compass group which belongs to a Tory donor. As I’ve said many many many times previously about all the other wheezes this lot have pulled since the election: they aren’t even trying to hide it any more. They are doing it in plain sight because they think we are idiots and they know that Boris could gun down a load of kids in the street tomorrow and they won’t lose a vote. People will lap this sh** up all because the fear of their neighbours getting ahead is too much to take.

There was a Tory who came out and said that food vouchers were being exchanged for drugs in his area lol. That was back when rashford first took this whole thing on last autumn. Let's remember, the electorate in this country dispise the poor, and revere the wealthy. It's what they have been taught to believe their whole lives.

This would be a miniscule part of the wealth they Syphon & steal from the taxpayers. But it's ok, it's only poor people being sh1t on, everyone else has supermarkets stacked full of endless food to choose from.

It's what they have been taught to believe their whole lives. That’s it in a nutshell, being ruled by people with wealth and no sense is still a relatively recent thing for this country in the grand scheme of things, it only started to change before the Second World War IIRC but we still live under a parliamentary system that sees public school kids vastly over represented in parliament compared to the make up of the population. If people want to see a more representative society the background of our MPs is as important as seeing more black, Asian and gypsy people on TV. Otherwise we will continue to labour under this queerly British attitude of paying fealty to the aristocracy because people believe that privilege proves leadership competency. Servile beyond belief.

If you haven’t yet, check out the pictures. It must be hard to have any pride in yourself as it is needing free school meals and then you get tuna turn up in a money bag and a stub of carrot. Just brutal.

Depressing that people need it and depressing that even though people need it, we send them that sh**e and depressing (if not unsurprising) that someone is creaming off the top

Just brutal. I assume the money bag one is satire? It has to be? No way are half peppers and quarter onions being handed out, that even fails basic hygiene? Still waiting for a satisfied right winger to enter the chat with the standard 'all poor people have flat screen TVs and mobile phones' logic lol.

Depressing that people need it and depressing that even though people need it, we send them that sh**e and depressing (if not unsurprising) that someone is creaming off the top What’s also depressing is that the narrative amongst the public seems to be that anyone who needs free school meals has brought the situation on themselves because they have spent all their money on booze and fags and had children they couldn’t afford. I hear this all the time and I live in a very liberal part of the country. I’m reminded of some polling stats that found that the public’s perception of the cost of benefit fraud, the number of people on benefits etc is grossly over-estimated compared to the statistical fact. This suggests that the media and the likes of Ben Bradley are doing an excellent job of divide and conquer by convincing the public that the tropes about benefits claimants are not the odd anecdotal outlier but the text book example. It’s no wonder we live in such a heartless society when minds are so easily manipulated to hate poor people and see their plight as of their own making. Total propaganda that Goebbels would be proud of. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to what is inside us and the British people, whilst lied to, ultimately have the propensity to be a heartless people because we have become so obsessed by enrichment of ourselves at the expense of everyone else. I don’t think, as a nation, that we genuinely want a better world for everyone, we only want more for ourselves. I would challenge anyone to look at the pictures of that food parcel and feel proud to be British, but I know that loads will. The thought makes me sick.

Agree, a sickness in the UK to allow something like this to happen.
UK food poverty in 2021, how utterly pathetic for a so called civilised country.
The big question as always, do we blame it on 'human nature' to be selfish? Or the power structure where you can join the prawn sandwich club, but the greedy rich take all the money and the poor get nothing.

There’s two issues here: The “packaging” of the food The cost to the tax payer vs the value of what’s been delivered. When are people going to get angry about the fat profits being made on these contracts? No longer just on PPE and broken test and trace but on meals for kids! When will the venality end? When will the profiteering at the expense of the tax payer actually stop? If they can make £20/£25 on a £30 food package for kids then all bets are off quite frankly.

The big question as always, do we blame it on 'human nature' to be selfish? Or the power structure where you can join the prawn sandwich club, but the greedy rich take all the money and the poor get nothing. If you and your mates can make a ~90% profit margin why would you NOT want it to happen? Poverty pays, we can see it here quite clearly. And that’s the problem with voting Tory, you are voting for a cottage industry to be made out of keeping people poor. It is absolutely politics for the privileged at the expense of the rest. It boils my water but I expect nothing less from the British who would covet the steam off their water if they thought their neighbour could use it to heat their home.

I doubt that, but there surely aren't £20+ of costs being swallowed up

What’s the view of our Tory voting friends on this ? Bingo cards at the ready: “Dole scum/work hard/feckless parents/something for nothing/work hard/50 inch TVs/proud to be British/booze and fags/work hard” etc.
