That is a bit unfair. The 1st Phase Gym development at Almondsbury took advantage of the existing barn structure to make a quick start alongside the initial pitch development and enables on-pitch and gym training + physio to be conducted at the same location from September onwards.
I accept that it doesn't look as pretty as Fleetwood's at the moment, but from Wael's communications and the excellent GasCast podcast with Martyn Starnes and Tom Gorringe, there are a number of planned phases to the training ground development, which will bring us much closer to the high quality facility that Fleetwood have.
We're making use of existing planning permissions to get started and, judging from the pictures, our 2 main pitches will be better than Fleetwood's.
I will say that I'm not too sure about the candy-stripe cladding on the gym.
Existing barn structure. Lol. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out and the quality of the different phases of development. I don't get the joke. The existing steel structure was sound and was previously a barn. This is being used to put up a suitable, on-site gym and treatment room in a short space of time.
The picture from Wael's phone seemed to be very similar to the existing 'clubhouse' planning permission and would have to be within that footprint to be developed now. Hopefully this will be able to accommodate 1st team changing, treatment, catering, offices and media, etc. by the end of November. Longer-term developments for the Academy and future community use are also planned.
As I understand, the other derelect buildings (cottage / outbuildings) are to be developed for on-site accommodation. These will need renewed planning permission, but the idea of setting up temporary accommodation for ground staff, new players, etc. rather than paying hotel bills seems a good idea to me.
All funded out of Wael's pocket. What's not to like?

That's for the gym I assume to get around the lack of planning for the barns(?), the main complex looks from the plans Wael had on his phone during the VFF that it's going to be built inline with the pp the rugby club obtained. If Wael does have a spare £10m to spend I'd sooner it be put towards a new ground rather than a fancy training complex, as far as Fleetwood where do they go from here as they are always going to be in Blackpool's shadow and I doubt any club can survive on 3,000/4,000 gates in the Championship for long when the average wage bill is around £20m.

The training ground is more important than a new stadium IMO. A new stadium without a training ground is like having a sports car but with no engine or wheels.

We'll have to see the end results, but without wanting to sound ungrateful etc, I don't know why we couldn't have just built a bespoke purpose built training facility in one go (like Fleetwood for example), rather than make use of barns and derelict buildings already on the site. If it's a planning permission issue, maybe that should have been considered when drawing up plans and purchasing the land. I can't help looking at the family 'stand' and imagining another similar monstrosity, only this time at the training ground. Excuse the pessimism, but that is what being a Rovers fan has done to me!

The advantage of using the existing planning permission is time and probably the fact that the design allows us to include everything we need at the moment. Permitted development rights allow the conversion of agricultural buildings to a number of uses, without having to go through the entire planning procedure. So we can can convert the large steel framed barn to a gym (and it’s the same type of structure as quite a few gyms found on trading estates) and the other buildings to accommodation. While it may lack the initial ‘wow look at this’ factor, it is quicker and probably cheaper, as seems to have been alluded to in the Gascast interview with Tom Gorringe and Martyn Starnes.

I like the new gym, a clever nod to the historic and iconic roof of the South Stand. A classy touch.

Plus if Wael had now delayed development until we submitted plans got pp we'd have missed the window of opportunity to lay the pitches this summer, I sense Wael's hands were tied by Hani until he obtained full control of the club earlier this summer.

So the halcyon days of Rovers when everyone was content are over. But it was a great two weeks.
Can't believe people are complainng about the first stage of a new training ground development, coz it's not as good as a ten-milion-quid white-elephant in some god-forsaken corner of the up-north.

Building a training ground is obviously a step in the right direction, as long as it's done right and we aren't left with a similar eye sore as we have with the family stand which is barely fit for purpose.

I don’t think the changing room complex will be leading edge architecture, but from the existing planning permission it looks pleasant enough and was already designed to do the things we want it to do. As for the gym/treatment room building, if people are not keen on the blue and white stripes, they can console themselves by remembering that it’s largely invisible behind a row of hedges and trees.

It’s all gasinciders fault, he has cryptically stated that the new training ground is a disaster.

Isn't the Gym just being built in the temporary barn structure and not in the clubhouse because there is no inclusion for one in the inherited plans? I expect a newer one will be built after stage one has been completed and the club moves into the site, only 1/3 of the site is currently being developed so plenty of room for future buildings/pitches.
Just having a Gym on site is a massive step up from Cribbs where the players would have to travel to leisure centres in West Bristol just to have access to Gym equipment.

It seems to be hidden from view by bushes and/or trees I can't see it being an eyesore plus I doubt S Glos will let us build something which stands out like a sore thumb on Green Belt land. You seem to be turning into Gasincider on this thread!

Presumably they have seeded the area in the last few days after what they said last weekend, hopefully by next week we’ll see the green shoots of growth. Sorry, had no real news just thought this thread should be on page 1 so I bumped it up. 😉 UTG!

This lunchtime the ‘top dressing’ which is at least 12” deep is only covering less than a quarter of the first pitch. Still a lot of work to do to get it ready for seeding.
