Bristol Rovers' hometown hero Chris Lines joins Max to discuss his three (yes, three) promotions at the club. Linesy talks about breaking into the first team under Paul Trollope, and how he went from a released youth-team prospect to a regular starter in League One in a matter of years. Chris also talks about the relegation from League One, where it all went wrong under Dave Penney's reign, and how he eventually came to leave the club for Sheffield Wednesday in 2011. Linesy also talks about his return to the club under Darrell Clarke, and how dropping down to non-league to help his boyhood club was a no-brainer. He discusses Play-Offs, Wembley drama, and THAT Lee Brown Goal, as well as playing at Chelsea in the League Cup, adapting his game as time has gone on, and an infamous bust-up with Graham Coughlan. It was great to chat with Chris for an extended hour and a half, covering a monumental 11 seasons at the club - Enjoy! listen.gascastpodcast.co.uk/276671/4505489-a-chat-with-chris-lines

Hahaha I love the story about DC at Chelsea.
Lads are in the changing room and DC looks at the Chelsea team and says "Who's this #4, don't think he's played before..." and it was Fabregas.

Great listen, really enjoyed it.
Doesn’t sound good for GC.

On Wikipedia his total matches played shows as 538.
Take off his 39 appearances for Northampton, and that makes 499 at the end of his time here.
Did he fall one short? I thought it was his 500th, although GC suggested it wasn't, as Linesy said.

Yeah I think he was not given his 500th because of GC Pretty certain GC gave him is 500th, he just took the p suggesting it could be only his 499th, I guess we never took to GC's strsnge sense of humour.

One of my favourite players of recent times. Played with heart. Had his off days but with the kind of player and role he played, this was to be expected. Got criticised by fans but that was because he tried to do things to get us going when other players just did the norm; takes guts and heart! Still remember that late winner vs Cardiff from distance. I was standing behind him on East Terrace and the swerve on the ball took it past their goalie. A lot of commentators thought the goalie could have saved it; personally I think the swerve had already taken the ball past him. I think that win took us to Chelsea? Bad start but great ending at Chelsea; ouble whammy rule cost us as they would have had a player sent off when Sinclair got the penalty?
Always wish him the best whatever the future holds.
The only way is up. UTG

CL still sniffling away
Get over it man. GC had a job to do to keep us in the league, You were part of the reason we were in the relegation zone when he took over.
GC needed fighters to keep us up and clearly saw you as a ‘me me me’ player when he needed eleven fighters and not a whinging individual, the fact is, GC saw straight through you and his record up until Dec 19 showed he knew what he was doing.
I’m sure GC hasn’t lost any sleep over his decision whereas you obviously have.
Where is there a podcast interviews with Ollie Clarke who had exited with dignity. No moaning, no me me me
Lines has gone, thank god for that. Listening to that interview again clearly shows that it is all about him and that no player is bigger than the club
Queue abuse but save your energy - it’s my view and whether you like it or I have never got the lines love in
I point you in the direction of Joe Jacobsen who came back from a serious injury on his return against Huddersfield was woeful exposed by a left sided midfielder who gave him no support
JJ is now in the championship and never once moaned about that evening where it could have damaged his whole career when taken off at half time
Mind you, there are still some on here who think Byron Anthony was decent

You don’t get this so called “love in” but the majority will never get your irrational hatred.

Has he done something personally to you? If your boss cut you out and fired you tomorrow for no reason known to you, and your colleague then said “well your boss didn’t lose any sleep over it, but clearly you have” - does make you a sniffler, or just someone who has the right to feel aggrieved over losing the best job they ever had?

The section where he talks about being on the pitch at Craven Cottage about to deliver the ball for Hints goal whilst Irene is being belted out got me thinking about whether there is enough material now for a sound bite compilation along similar lines to the video compilation shown before matches on the big screen? I was thinking about applications for such a compilation say putting it on ten minutes before the ifollow Match audio or match stream so that listeners can be assured they are getting the right audio and can set the sound levels...much better than getting Radio Bristol Medium wave DJs playing music across pictures or complete silence until after the game has started.
Wonder what other gasheads would want in the sound bite collection apart from more podcast moments I’d like Gerry Francis ragging Carl Saunders, “ Print that bastard” and if they could get Sky’s permission Dickie Davies saying “Is this gantry bouncing or what Jeff?” after Browner’s winner v Dagenham

Both good kids who would have got better with us. Leadbitter injury at Walsall was bad for him and us. Jacobsen is class and always liked him. Met him and a really nice guy. Wish him the best but hate Wycombe for the way they play. As regards Lines, we miss him for his creativity; since he left, this has shown in our team. Players in Championship and lower will not perform 100% every game. Lines is a creator not an Agogo type player with respect to both. I always looked forward to him playing for us in the middle just like many looked forward to Sercombe as both being able to do something hopefully! He took us to Chelsea with that great goal and I will always remember that wonder goal forever. UTG
