Anyone getting annoyed with this being spouted on Social Media?
Gills fans have come to the conclusion that Ehmer left them because "Rovers have a wealthy sugar daddy pumping money in". Saw something similar from a Muff fan yesterday.
I wouldn't mind if it was true! But we're getting a reputation for something we're not.

Well, we do have a wealthy owner pumping money into the club, although there's a lot more to it than just chucking money at it. If we're able to offer 2 and 3 year contracts nobody else can, you can't blame players for taking them? Wael has made Rovers a far more attractive proposition than a lot of our traditional rivals, who are for obvious reasons struggling in the wake of the biggest threat to football and our whole way of life any of us can remember.

To be fair, there's plenty of Gasheads who were creaming themselves when he first got here, believing he was a multi billionaire

I dont want to see any team struggle financially but we should consider ourselves to have the owner we have. Not many of us were saying that several months ago

I could get used to this feeling of belonging to the "haves" and not the "have nots". [Claps hands behind back of head with fingers locked, reclines, crosses ankles, eyes close, corners of mouth curl up and feels sun on face]. UTG!

Didn't Ehmer leave because Gills never offered him a new contract, what do they expect him to do just wait and see if their owner ever came up with a decent offer? Given we've lost a few under-performing big earners off the wage budget, OC, Sercs, Nichols, THD, I'm not even sure we're going to spend more than last season at present.

Not sure the exact details but we’ve brought in 3 players who were at the end of their contracts so no fees involved. I’m sure signing on fees and increased wages to come but I guess Wael is hoping crowds at football happen ASAP and some near 10,000 crowds will be funding them. And of course we’ve moved some players out so that will be set against those coming in. Perhaps the biggest difference between us and some other clubs is the risk Wael is taking in getting them on contract now rather than waiting for the EFL to tell us the start date of 20/21 season. Those better players with young families as Baldwin and Ehmer appear to have need some financial security which signing for us has given them. Other clubs seem to be waiting for some firm dates. Good use of the market so far but pressure on BG to start delivering. We are very fortunate in the current climate and I never thought I would be saying that. UTG!

It's natural for people to jump to false conclusions when they only see part of the story. No doubt us Gasheads have made similarly misguided observations about other clubs because we don't know the ins and outs of others.
I wouldn't worry too much, just put them straight if you ever them in a conversation 😁

For me though it's a case of we have increased revenue streams on non-match days and also get twice the gate of clubs like Gills. We should be outspending them but we start too and suddenly it's "rOvErS hAvE a SuGaR dAdDy"

I find it funny.
Look at it from a player’s perspective. Let’s say this is all theoretical and Ehmer only had 2 options, Rovers or Stay at Gillingham.
Come to Rovers:
Offered a 2 year contract with option of a 3rd New Purpose built training ground on the way Bristol one of the best up and coming cities in the country to live in and raise your kids. Premier league coach with a philosophy of possession based, on the floor football managing the club. Examples of the owner investing in the playing front and facilities on and off the pitch (also clearing all the clubs debts during a global pandemic)
Stay at gillingham:
Hasn’t been offered a deal until the owner is sure when the league will restart Owner has publicly stated outside investment is probably required to keep the club running the way it was pre-pandemic. Gilligham, Kent up there with one of the most deprived and boring places within the south east Steve Evans is the manager...need I say more..
And most importantly
Tent > Scaffolding site

It's more a case of good earners/ decent players out:
- Sercs - Clarke - Nicholls - Craig - Reily
Leaves scope and budget for good players in.
We'll spend our FFP limit again, that is clearly the model (imo rightly) that we adopt.

Tbh it kind of makes sense that we are able to outbid the likes of The Gills for players. In the past we've had to see numerous teams who get absolutely nowhere near the attendances we do and they have been able out punch us in the transfer market because we have likely been paying off so much over the years that we werent fully able to use all of our revenue towards the playing side. Now that we arent paying that debt off all the time i think it'll give us a real step up in the market for players, that and it is actually a pretty exciting proposition for players. The ethos at the club is changing at the moment and i think a lot of people will want to come along for the ride. Also the way the information released from the club through the bristol post about potential signings has interested me, All correct with Grant, Ehmer and Baldwin so far it strikes me that the relationships that rovers have atm seem to be getting more reliable and trust worthy. Its an interesting time for the Gas!
