The website Football Shirts History has just added illustrations of our old home and away shirts from the 1970s - they really are a great look back at some iconic strips. Take a look at: footballshirthistory.weebly.com/a-b/bristol-rovers#And if you know of any further additions or tweaks to the record then please let them know. UTG! And thank you Football Shirt History.

I would love to get my hands on a Toshiba kit. Some absolute beauties amongst those and some terrible shirts too.

Drinking when young really affects! I attended most away games 80-84 but, seriously I cannot remember the orange Toshiba shirts. Drinking tinnies on the train and being in the pub from midday obviously affected my vision and or my memory. Though in those days, we seemed to play in blue and white quarters away more frequently than these days unless there was a clash of colours.

I can remember this kit , it always reminded me of Henbury OBs kit !! Some great kits there but my fav would be the home kit 79 80 and the away favourite would be 89 90

92/93 home and away are my favourites, but 79/80 and 89/90 home, and 94/95 away, are right up there, pleased to have all of those in my collection, the 79/80 being the toffs remake. We really have had some great shirts over the decades.

Had the design windows 92 kit as a kid. Loved the 94/95 home and away shirts. Still my favourite to this day.

73-74 promotion shirt when we returned to the quarters. No badge, no sponsor, no need. Everyone recognised us. Clean, simple strip. UTG!

I would love to get my hands on a Toshiba kit. Some absolute beauties amongst those and some terrible shirts too. Is that the Hobot shirt with the original crest on it, if so I loved that shirt and would love the chance to buy it as a modern day replica. If I recall the away was all yellow with striped shades. Looked amazing

I don't believe there are any retro remakes of these unfortunately. Attachment Deleted

That's great, thanks for sharing lmgas.
My favourite home shirts would be the 94-95 (nostalgic for me), and 07-08 which is just about as close that we got to your classic "no-frills" quarters, very smart and clean look.
Favourite away shirts 94-95 was sexual, and 17-18 was very smart with the grey and black quarters and neon trim. Really wish I'd bought that at the time, but I normally wait for it to go down in price towards the end of the season, and I missed that boat. Besides I only ever wear the home shirts to matches, so buying the away often seems a bit of a pointless spend personally.

The image on there shows the shirt having the 'cartoon' pirate badge but I had a replica as a kid and I distinctly remember it having the BRFC script (like the 79-80 shirts - and my avatar!). Unless we also used it as a third-kit that year too? With the badged version, interesting to see we were ahead of the curve in recolouring this to match the shirt colours, i thought this was only a recent thing. The shirt I'd forgotten about was the all dark blue 3rd shirt of 80-81, pretty sure that was the one we wore when I saw us play Southampton away, Kevin keegan and all, in the FA cup (3-1 defeat if memory serves). Don't know if we wore it anywhere else.

For me it’s the 89-90 as many have said, but loved the 90-91 Design Windows home shirt - stitched on sponsor! Massive fan of the Hobbot ones but very few about, and any player worn / signed ones would be a dream. Imagine Ollie, Penny, Percy all signing one of those bad boys! There are a few that will go on to be a bit of a classic I reckon, mainly both home and away with the badge printed all over behind the quarters, and then the Black Arab style strips we had (both, but 125th anniversary preferable) probably will be worth a fair bit in years to come. A few tidy shirts on eBay I’m pondering bids or offers on right now!!

Thanks for your insights buktaboy, I've been liaising with the guy who does the Football Shirt History site and we weren't sure whether the circular pirate badge was used in 80/81 or only in 81/82. Like you say there is definitely a green and black quarters with the BFRC logo. Here's a picture of the all blue third shirt from Feb 81 away to Newcastle. Attachment DeletedI don't suppose you, or anyone else has a memory of the shirt down as 81/82 third, I know someone who has the shirt but we haven't been able to link it to a game yet let alone find a photo from the time. Thanks again for your help - UTG.

I only realised the other day that the same also happened with he 92/93 shirt when the badge was black, although the matchworn shirts were actually embroidered in original colours.
