Are you seriously comparing us to them ? Show me where I did that & I’ll buy you the new home shirt. True, I guess I saw an implication of it in the comment.

Agreed, he does certainly have to start proving that his words can be put into action, but according to many on here, he'll be out after 3 games if we don't get some points against some of the best teams in this division. He won't be out after 3 games (even if fans want it). I'm not expecting much from the opening 3 games - 1 or 2 points (and concede it's certainly possible we will have 0). But even if that's the case, as long as we actually perform well in the those 3 games I'd be happy to effectively ignore them. If we get dicked 6-0 in each of them and play like a non-league side then that would obviously be very different. Fair response RD, and I would tend to agree with that. I just think this negativity we're having on here after a poor pre-season performance is hardly going to help.

really interesting read - very unlucky with his own footballing career at just 19.

I don’t see why not? Most of our players have come from them. Fair comment but, JCH apart, none have excelled Abu Ogogo? Tom Davies? JCH (acknowledged) I beg to differ.

really interesting read - very unlucky with his own footballing career at just 19. Very similar to Brendan Rodgers who had to retire from the game aged 20. He went into Youth coaching like BG and excelled, with rave reviews from top managers and young players he coached. His first forays into management were at Watford and Reading, where he only lasted about 6 months in both jobs before getting sacked. I am no means comparing BG to Brendan Rodgers, but their paths into coaching and management are very similar.

Interesting read. So he's the illegitimate love child of Ian Holloway and Tony Pulis. No wonder he thought he'd fit in well here.

I presume they had someone to win the ball or did they all wait for a misplaced pass? Of course you need to win the ball back, but you don't necessarily have to be that "Physical". Barcelona had a team full of players under 6ft, arguably the best club side ever, certainly in my lifetime. Coventry were like that in our division last year, pressing and wining the ball back, doesn't mean you have to be overly physical. In L1, if a team's strategy on regaining possession is based on opposition misplaced passing they won't have to wait very long.

We generally do terrible in our first 6/7 games?
L1 is not where the crime de la crime play; pitches at lower level are now much better than years ago so more skilful, passing sides will profit more than in the past but you still need that hardness in your team?
Unless we stop giving the ball away too cheaply, learn to pass simple balls 5 -10 yards, be able to take throw ins and retain the ball, have some pre-planned creativity about our set pieces like corners and free kicks, be able to clear the ball down the line and not out and be able to shoot and hit the target more often than over the bar then we may have a chance. Decent referees may also help but that is probably stretching it a bit too far. And stop conceding goals in the first 17 minutes.

Are you seriously comparing us to them ? I don’t see why not? Most of our players have come from them. Trouble is we only get the ones that cannot play how mark robbins wants them to play or that he no longer needs. Although in fairness the coventry lads have been fine players for rovers.

Show me where I did that & I’ll buy you the new home shirt. True, I guess I saw an implication of it in the comment. Coventry showed beyond any doubt that you can play passing football from back to front and do very well in league one. Doncaster played in a similar style last season but not as well as coventry. Point is that it can be done but it remains to be seen if rovers can do that.

thanks for posting ,really interesting read, Ben is obviously passionate about the way the game should be played and has my full support but, it does concern me a little that he see's no place for at least one 'ball' winner /spoiler in his team aka Ogogo, there we are, he will stand or fall by his own methods, sincerely hope its the former! Isn't that the role we signed Josh Grant for? A ball winner/spoiler but one who can also pick a pass.
