I have to say that to some degree every managerial appointment is a gamble. Whoever we contract will have my support from the off. GC proved that picking up points alone is not enough for some. Footballing ethos will be important as will tactical nous. Garner has a lot to learn in respect the second of those two qualities.

Not sure how I would feel about Tis. Like many, from the outside looking in he seemed to do a great job with Exeter. However looking at it now, in his twelve years there he won 15 more than he lost or just over one a year.. fairly unremarkable. He got them promoted to L1, but also got relegated with them. At MK he got promoted from L2 but then again we know how he got on the following season in L1. There is something I like about him, but I think he is a good L2 manager. I think we need to think bigger. We currently have a good squad and are an established L1 team. We need a good L1 manager. We've shown real ambition in our player recruitment recently, now we need to do the same for a manager. Can you name one good L1 manager who's out of work/would consider joining us? Reflecting on this, why do they need to be out of a job? Why can't we go and nab another team's manager - plenty of others do it. I'm not saying we would necessarily want them (ahem Barton), but could we go and try and pinch the manager of Donny, Fleetwood, Accrington, Crewe, Lincoln etc. etc. If a big L1 team came and did this to us we wouldn't be surprised so why wouldn't we do it? And if we could, any that appeal?

Tisdale now a massive 1/8 odds on favourite with Bet Victor and 1/6 with Sky Bet.

Wheoever we go for there is no guarantees that they will be a success but straight away nabbing another manager you have to pay compensation to start with, so that straight away puts more pressure on. I have my doubts about someone like Flynn for example, on paper is doing a great job but has Lennie alongside him to help and is a "Newport man". Any appointment is a gamble but if I was Wael, I'd rather taker the cheaper gamble than an expensive one.

When was it scheduled for and how do you know it's been delayed?

Especially if they want to get the correct appointment this time Yeah we wouldn’t have heard from Starnes today if they were expecting to complete a deal by say Thursday at the earliest I’d imagine. Even if theyre set on PT imagine it would take a while to agree terms, PT to sleep on it, chance for him to probe the club etc

With Tisdale living locally anyway, perhaps if he does get the position it would be convinient for both parties and initially a trial type short-term deal? More importantly I hope his PowerPoint ability is up to scratch if he does get it.

.No, we’re not interviewing at the moment as such. COVID causes a problem with interviewing, but discussions are taking place. I wouldn’t characterise them as interviews.
It is just as soon as possible, Sam. I’m not going to put a date on it because you never know how these things are going to pan out, but clearly we would like to get someone in as soon as we can get them.
I might be wrong but this would tell me they know who they want and that discussions are taking places with that person (probably Tisdale).
Does anyone read into it differently?

I read that as target identified, just discussions on contract and salary left to go.

Widdrington interview sounds like he might only be in charge one match.

I remember him saying he lives in Southend so he can ptobably do his current job without travelling to Bristol everyday. Obviously that wouldn't be the case of he was manager.

Yeah he clearly doesn’t want the job and it sounds like it might be a short caretaker role.

I don't see the point in hiring Tisdale imo. We may as well have kept Garner if we do. I know hes got newely 700 games under his belt, but his league one experience as never ended well. Apart from finishing in eighth place – equalling Exeter's highest ever league finish. Haha funny, it’s like when people say DC failed at league 1 level . He didn’t he got us promoted to league 1 and kept us mid table / top half for a couple of years before one bad half season. Maybe not amazing but decent same as Tisdale, and in the end most managers get the sack. In the same terms you could say Jose wasn’t a success at Chelsea because it never ended well.

Plenty of company's are interviewing candidates via Zoom, which is probably how Wael will carry out the interview anyway if he's now back in Jordan.
