Hanlan shouldn’t be out for long and could be back for Darlo. Daly will be fit unless injuries happen this week in training

Surely there must be some out of contract strikers around? Absolutely there will be but are we even allowed to bring one in ? If I understand the rules correctly (and I hope I dont) even if we have enough room in the budget we cant change the squad list we've nominated until Jan. I think our only option is to recall one of the youngsters out on loan who are 2 young to qualify for the list. Anyone know if I've got that correct ? You can make an emergency signing if the EFL agree, as Gillingham did when they signed Lumley recently. Although we're not going to get approval because just Ayunga is out injured, assuming Hanlan's and Daly's injuries are just short term.

Lumley is a keeper and the rules for keepers are different aren’t they being such a specialist?

Only emergency loans 4 keepers so we soldier on until January

If the plan was to play 1 up top with two behind the squad BG and TW assembled is as follows:
1 up top: Hanlan Ayungah Daly
Two behind: Nicholson JML McCormick Walker Barrett Oztumer
It seems they had a “3 for every position” approach to me.
It must have been there wasn’t the money or personnel available for another striker as no one in their right mind would turn down a striker and request two more midfielders.
Interestingly BG didn’t seem to fancy our last two signings. Oztumer and Liddle.
Perhaps those two should have been blocked and a striker signed

Fair play to Lumley, immediately after the Gillingham spell he signed for Doncaster for a week and has played their last two games. He appears to have been shut out at QPR and is doing all he can to get league game time.

I wonder who the striker signing was that we turned down? Perhaps Sam Frost can reveal that now?

Time to let the kids loose
You win nothing with kids
But let’s face it
We’re not winning anyway
Time to roll the dice and give Phillips an opportunity

From the season's start people have complained that this large unbalanced squad contained more left backs than strikers. Now all strikers injured. Brilliant forward planning. It's the new ideology by a brilliant up and coming coach. It's far too intelligent for the likes of me and you to work out. I believe he had a secret system that would win the League without scoring any goals, such a shame he wasn't given time to reveal it to us.

Thanks for the explanation. A system that would win the league without scoring any goals and incorporating a squad of 3 young strikers with minimal combined league experience. I'm not familiar with this system which does not seem to be in common usage. Presumably this system includes regular embarrassment at the hands of the better teams in the league?

When we sold JCH I remember Garner saying "we dont need a like for like player", and I remember thinking "Oh yes we do". So Hanlon who has just about 18 months of League One footy, a player from non league and one from an academy, and that is our strike force. How did the Board allow this to happen? Surely they kept a tab on how Garner was spending the money. Plus 12 defenders and 11 midfielders; it's obvious that they are not all going to get games, and this is going to cause unrest I fear. They need to do something creative, and quick.
Any news on our London Academy? Anyone?

We have been unlucky with injuries to our strikers. If BG was intending to go through the season playing systems with only one out and out striker how many would we need in a squad? We would have a first choice, one on the bench and another sat in the stand, would we want two sat in the stand taking up part of the playing budget? If he was intending to regularly play with two strikers then only having three in the squad was clearly a reckless piece of management.
I guess the problem is when you have a change of manager. I don’t know what PT’s preferred formation is but if he likes two up front then he is clearly going to be hampered with the squad he inherited and which was built to the requirements of BG.
Man City play with one out and out striker, I think they only have two in their squad - one of whom is pretty injury prone. BG isn’t the only idiot - Guardiola is too!!!

In all fairness, the board appoint the manager/coaches/recruiters to do this side of things - if they were experts on pitch-side going’s-on they’d be picking & coaching the team and wouldn’t need the others to do it for them . . .

Oh he fully intended playing one- and then he found out he wasn’t as clever as he thought he was and actually on occasion needed two, then after he left and the window shut we realised that, shock horror, we needed 4. Prior Prevention and Planning Prevents water Poor Performance.

In defence of the recruitment, the system Garner was developing was a 3-4-3 which was the reason we've been overloaded by central defenders and only three strikers.
So, the back three would have been Baldwin, Ehmer, Harries with Kilgour, Davies and possibly Little as back up.
The front three would have been Nicholson, Hanlan, Mitchell-Lawson with Ayunga and Daly as back up. The midfielders and wingbacks would be the middle four.
Trouble is the system wasn't working so he went for a 5-3-2 which meant he needed two strikers from the start.
At least one of those should have been an experienced striker at this level.

Sure Le Tis has already been on the phone, tracking down an experienced Centre Forward, and at least one winger, who can beat the full back and centre the ball at pace pass the first man.
That said, I guess we will bounce along the bottom of division 1 until mid January, when hopefully, Le Tis with a few additions to the squad, will be able to get BRFC out of the current crisis and safe.
