Jaakkola 7 Couple of good saves and I don't think he could have done much more to stop the goals.
Hare 6 Decent enough as our weakness was through the middle.
Ehmer 4 Rewatching the highlights from the game are a lowlights reel for Ehmer. Didn't seem keen on defending and a few runs forward doesn't make up for that. His leadership qualitites were touted when he joined but I'm afraid I've seen nothing to evidence this so far this season.
Baldwin 4.5 Centre backs being bullied by big strikers is a trend that I'd like to see stopped. Because we seem to lack ideas for starting attacks I commend him for at least trying to find a pass forward, even if some went astray.
Leahy 6 Same as Hare. The crossing wasn't great last night. Didn't give any men in the middle much chance of hitting the target.
Grant 5 Has been improving recently but this game passed him by.
Upson 5 Same as Grant, the ball watching going on in the middle was infuriating at times. He might not be a leadership type character but with such a young midfield he needs to add that to his game.
McCormick 6 Without Daly we need a pest further up the pitch and Mccormick's energy fills that void. Showed some nice touches too.
Oztumer 7.5 MoM Always wanting the ball and always wanting to go forward. Was involved in most of the good stuff going forward as our main creative player. But like everybody, needs to find a finish!
Nicholson 6.5 Involved in some nice build up play but his shooting let him down. The positive is the chances created but that means zilch without a goal to show for it. Drifted out of the game for a bit before he was moved to wingback.
Hanlan 5.5 Isolated again. When this is the case we expect him to do a lot when the ball is pumped up to him and last night it wouldn't stick. But I would feel harsh marking him down any more because he had little to feed off.
Subs: Kilgour 5 At least he wanted to make a tackle.
Walker 4.5 Will take some time to make the step up to the more physical league football.
Koiki 5 Didn't have much of an impact.
Westbrooke 5 No impact either. I still think he is a quality player but he may be a luxury top-of-the-league player as Oztumer and Nicholson have shown themselves to be more threatening off their own backs.
Ref 7 Solid overall with a couple of decision I diagreed with and to be fair to him didn't let the mouthy Evans get in his head.
Gillingham 7 Got the job done. Went direct because it worked against a weak central defence.
Frustrating scoreline because it promised to be an entertaining game after the first period with both teams carving out chances. One long ball and some schoolboy defending settled them and if we can't finish our chances the opposition are not going to be under pressure. I enjoyed some of play involving McCormick, Oztumer, and Nicholson but it counts for nothing at the end of the game if no chances are taken.
