The great man has sadly passed away aged 89. One of the very best commentators of any sport. He will be hugely missed by everyone connected to the game. I used to love watching Around with Alliss, all those years ago, when he used to feature well known celebrities playing golf. RIP Peter

Yes, very sad, he was the Murray Walker of the Golfing World. He was an after Dinner Speaker at one of my Father's Company get togethers, brought me home a card signed "keep swinging - Peter Alliss".

Back 20 odd years ago he was doing a commentary when the co-commentator remarked on a scorecard “he’ll need Carol Vorderman to add up that score”.
Allies replied. “I saw her on the tv the other day....I got aroused.......7 letter word not bad for an old boy”.

Loved his golf commentary - always guaranteed to raise a smile at some point.
