Sam Frost claiming gas closing in on a goalkeeper; presumably as a backup for Anssi? Is this the end for Van Shotstopper?

This came up on another thread and said I don’t see the need to. Jordi has been fairly solid in the games he’s been called upon. The only thing I can think of is Annsi is out longer than what we are currently being told.

If we're bringing in a keeper I don't see the point in retaining JVS or Andre

I'm pretty happy with the fact we have 2 permanent keepers, admittedly one is better than the other, but it feels like the first time for like 2 decades (conference season aside) where the goalie situation hadn't been reliant on loans and 3 or more keepers a season....

Anyone else reckon a keeper coming in means anssi is off then?
Can't see any value loaning in a number 2 goalie when we already have one.....

This is a good move.
Anssi is going to be out for longer than expected and with games coming thick and fast we need a better option than JVS.
I don't believe Anssi is going anywhere and Day is only coming on loan.

I just don't think the club is confident in JVS if its likely he will have to have a long run in the team. Exactly as last season.

Surprised the Club are going down the loan route at the moment - fair chance imo the EFL is going to be suspended any time soon.

Makes sense. Just like when we got Blackman last season. Annsi must be out for a few weeks at least and then there’s the international break in March. If the season does continue games will be coming thick and fast with two a week more often than not so Day will still get quite a few games.
Assuming he is taking up the squad space vacated by JML? Unless the plan is to loan Jordi out or just remove him from the squad list?

Fab piece of business... Would not be surprised if he became permanent in the Summer.

I would assume that JVS would benefit from a long run of starts to build confidence and i would like to think he would flourish (and i would also assume that those that scouted him would feel the same). I appreciate that he has made a blunder or two but so did Calamity James and he had an ok career. For me he tends to look a bit awkward and ungainly but he tends to get the job one and as long as the little round thing stays out of the netty thing i dont care if its done with panache or not. It isnt that long aho his team mates were giving him a standing ovation in the changing room. Having said that, with Day out of contract this year a loan deal to get a good look at him makes good sense when you consider our Number One’s age and the increasing amount of time being spent in the physio room.
But, at the end of the day i’m paying to watch football games rather than getting paid to win them so what do i know?
(Spent so long writing this i missed the 5 min warning and the announcement 😂)

www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2021/january/joe-day-signs/ The Club is delighted to announce the loan signing of Joe Day.The 30-year goalkeeper joins Rovers on a loan deal until the end of the 2020/21 season. Day is vastly experienced in the EFL, making almost 200 appearances during a spell playing for Newport County AFC and arrives at the Mem ahead of our upcoming Emirates FA Cup tie against Sheffield United. Beginning his career at Crystal Palace, Day joined Rushden & Diamonds in 2007. When moving to Peterborough in 2011, various loan spells aided the goalkeeper in the quest for first-team experience, achieved with spells at Alfreton Town and Eastbourne Borough. A loan stint at Newport in August 2014 was extended after impressing for the South Wales side, before Newport secured the services of Day permanently in December 2014, for a club record fee. While at Newport, the goalkeeper’s impressive displays earnt him a place in the League Two PFA Team of the Year for the 2018–19 season and was part of the Exiles squad that reached the Sky Bet League Two play-off final in 2019. Day joined Cardiff in the summer of 2019 and has made two appearances to date for the Bluebirds. Last term, Day made nine appearances on loan in Sky Bet League One for AFC Wimbledon. On the loan signing of Day, Manager Paul Tisdale said, “We are delighted to bring Joe to the football club. “The nature of Anssi’s injury makes it difficult to determine a timeframe for his return, so the addition of Joe will give us great competition in the goalkeeping department, with a high volume of games to come over the next few months. “Joe has an abundance of EFL experience and has shown his credentials as a highly-rated goalkeeper over many years." Day will wear shirt number 13 during his spell at the Gas.
