I don't normally watch much tv,only sport but as i have been home from work after an operation i have been bored to tears so i just watched a true life movie called 'LION'. Very good film def worth a watch. Is that the missing brothers in India? If so good film, but thought it’d be better after seeing the trailer at the time. How long are you off for? Plenty of good recommendations in this thread

Classic on Paramount at the moment, U-571. Bilge water and crap. Nowhere near the truth, fantasy sh**e and piffle. All done by RN long before the Yanks joined in. Apart from that......

Totally agree, not as bad as Braveheart or The Patriot though. At least there was the disclaimer at the end. What did you think of The Hunt for Red October and Crimson Tide?

Well...apart from a defecting Soviet submarine Captain having a Scottish accent....🤔 At least they are only entertainment and not being paraded as fact. Quite enjoyed them from that point of view. No expert on the procedure in “boats” being a “target” all my life but would think they stretched that a bit as well for the entertainment value....but hey ho. Did recall seeing a programme once about “The Perisher” course which was a bit of an eye opener. Fail and there is no way back....gulp!😱

I seem to recall they were given a bit of a let off, I swear The Teacher was critical of their performance so was surprised when he passed them both. Very difficult course to pass I understand.

No....think it’s official title is the Submarine Commanders Qualifying Course or some such similar dry title. Due to the low pass rate (think about 60%) it’s got it’s unofficial title. Was on UK tv sometime ago.

Nowt to do with me what you watch...... But I do get annoyed at films that distort the truth that much for the sake of entertainment. This one even got mentioned in Parliament it was so distorted if I recall correctly. Some brave Royal Navy guys being airbrushed out of history on the altar of Hollywood entertainment. But I admit I am a bit prejudiced in that department.....

Agree, don't have a problem with the film per se only that they should make it clear that it's not based in historical fact,it writes out the exceptional work done by our own Armed Forces and the subsequent work that was critical by Alan Turing and his team at Bletchley, now there's a man so ill treated by his own Country.

In a film largely about events thousands of miles away.......ah that’s Hollywood for you....🤔 Although it has to be said many brave souls from Allied countries did fight (and die sadly) in Battle of Britain.

Netflex, Into The Wild, True story about a you man going to live off the land in the harsh Canadian wilderness ,with hardly any provisions and equipment. Good movie. The book was written by Jon Krakauer based on the true story of Christopher Mccandless. Another Krakauer book is "Into Thin Air" based on his experience of climbing Everest in a team that included Rob Hall and Scott Fisher. The Film Everest is based on this true story and his experience. I saw the memorial to Scott Fisher when trekking to Everest base camp.

Great, thanks for spoiling the ending Currently watching travellers on Netflix. Decent show, not quite the 8/10 rating it is on imdb but a simple and enjoyable show to watch
