The Antiques Roadshow is more exciting than listening to these two jokers. How many candidates did we interview again prior to appointing Tisdale, Martyn? Hey steady on old chap, nothing wrong with an hour with fiona bruce We might get a season with her based on how haphazard our hiring process is.

I agree people have a right to criticise but do it constructively.... also some seem to moan for the sake of moaning..... if we were top of the league they’d find something to moan about... Disagree about club being bad from top to bottom.... i didn’t say top to bottom? I said at the top, and I’m focusing on recruitment of managers, and players from the top. Widdrington is supposed to be in charge of recruiting players! It’s disgusting we’re still without a fourth striker. We have 3, and 2 have NO league experience. So what are you going to do about, buy out Wael to stop him? I assume Wael does not intentionally employ poor managers they just turn out to be poor, I doubt any of us thought Tisdale would be so poor, even if he wasn't our first choice for the job.

Quite curious about what positive spin they'll come out with.... Can't think of a single thing they can say....

When they released the statement saying Tisdale had gone they said they wouldn’t be making any further statements...? Why should they then do a press conference immediately about it? They will never give the full reasons other than results and progress were not what the board expected and they’ve acted now to try and get someone in to save our season.... All the people who were moaning about Tisdale and wanted him gone are now moaning after he’s gone that they want the reasons why he was sacked? They question the board and the board’s decision making and then moan when the board make firm decisions and take action, they then moan about that. Yes mistakes have been made but for once can we not unite and actually get behind the club...... the entire club..... and actually show our unwavering support? By god we need to be all pulling in the same direction to get out of this mess! For all those who want Starnes and Widdrington gone - who do they propose comes in to replace them? We can’t have a board of just Wael as these same people moan that he’s great owner off the pitch but makes bad football decisions about on the pitch matters!? Like I’ve said before, so many people on here just like moaning! (And yes it is ironic that I am now moaning about them moaning!) I also very much respect that we should be able to hold the board to account but please can we do it in a constructive way and when criticising, maybe give some thoughts on alternative options rather than just say these people need to go or are frauds etc? Just a thought? I’ve always tried to, for the most part. Wael isn’t short of a bob or two, regretfully give Starnes and Widdrington their marching orders based on the sheer depth of failure of the footballing side over the last year and then use contacts in the game to bring on board some consultants who can identify potential candidates for CEO and DOF following a model of developing young players, also with an eye on how the likes of Accrington and Crewe do it. Then going forward have the DOF as the main man. Give him a good deal so whilst the playing staff and manager come and go the DOF is happy to stay and be the point of continuity between the cycles of player and manager, with oversight on playing style right through the age groups. If we are going to invest somewhere invest properly in the scouting and coaching so that we increase our ratio of hits to misses amongst young players likely to make it and players from the league below or the conference who can make the step up. Maybe none of that is achievable, I don’t know, but I’m confident that we won’t get anywhere near Accrington or Peterborough’s success with the current set up, it’s not good enough- since we tried to change the style of football the signings haven’t been good enough and the managers haven’t been good enough and that’s on Starnes and Widdrington.

Well it’s not a surprise really is it? Did you read the threads on mk And Exeter’s forums? They predicted, down to a T, what Tisdale would do. And they were spot on. Anyone reading that would have had alarm bells sounding and would have done some due diligence. I don’t see how we can have done any due diligence considering Garner was sacked on the Saturday and Tisdale appointed on the Tuesday. And if we did do due diligence then that makes it even worse! We were warned, basically. It’s maybe noticable that Garner and Tisdale are two extremes- one with no experience and one with too much experience that appears to have sent him a bit loopy, like McGhee. How about a young, hungry manager with enough experience that we can see that he makes logical decisions? That would be a good use of common sense for once by the board wouldn’t it?

Why do posters keep suggesting we need to be as successful as Accrington, it's not like they are running away with the L1 championship, they were promoted to L1 after us and will probably finish mid table again, it must be fairly easy for them to pick up young players in the north west, given how many Premiership/Championship clubs are based in the area, there must be 10+ releasing players every summer?
P'bor have had their set up running for a decade or more, so it's not something they've built overnight, as far as employing a DoF and building up the scouting network, isn't that TW's new role, not sure he had any real involvement in Garner's or Tisdale's appointment, the former seems Wael's choice the latter Starnes.

Just a thought? I rarely moan, and I tend to at least see players play before passing any judgement. I also wait until I feel the manager has had a fair crack of the whip before making judgement either way. I think Widdrington & Starnes have had a fair crack of the whip & have proved inept at making the right footballing decisions. If they were in the managers shoes they would be gone. What I would like to see, is an experienced manager at this level or championship, with a proven track record also capable of recruiting the players he needs & building a development squad with ability to progress into the first team. Widdrington’s salary, can be used to entice such manager, as I am sure he would demand higher salary than PT. Someone like an Atkins, Cook, Monk, or Pearson Starnes needs to be replaced, I have not trusted a single word from his mouth when he said he couldn’t remember who instigated the conversation about DC going, him or DC. If we are to have a CEO, it needs to be better than someone who has wiggled his way around lower league clubs in the South West. Again do we need a CEO, Could we not have consultant paid by results in finding/delivering a new stadium & possibly a footballing man as a temporary adviser to Wael & new manager - a Harry Rednapp type maybe, with ex in how to deal with transfers & possibly add some nouse on contracts to get the best deal. Wael currently doesn’t have the experience around him. Yes, all this will cost, but that’s my view. I understand the financial implications & sustainability etc. But what’s happening is not sustainable & I wouldn’t be surprised if a senior member of the family is not having a word in his shell like. I suspect nothing radical will happen as it seems very cozy at the top, we will get the same answers as before & either Widdrington stays to the end of the season or we get another that sings off of their hymn sheet until they realise there is only one page & speaks out. I didn’t want Tisdale in but he wasn’t given the time. I wish Widdrington all the best in his caretaker role, as I’m Rovers and want to see us win games & stay up, but am disillusioned by some of the decisions made.

I’m sure he will say “we’re going to have a full application process” but he said that last time and yet he couldn’t get on the phone to Tisdale quick enough. What is going to be different this time round? Have they learnt anything from the Garner and Tisdale fiascos? I doubt it. Would be very uncomfortable for him to defend such a fiasco. He'll probably swerve it by rocking up with his "crazy" socks that have Tom Gorringe's face on. Yes, Martyn. Hilarious.

Great o p!
Perhaps Starnesy can issue a letter of apology?
In an age where media is quicker; more sophisticated; easier to create and stronger than ever, the lack of public communication between the board and fanbase is as wide as it's ever been.

To be fair gas I wasn’t necessarily thinking about you and in the most part I agree that you try to be constructive. I don’t always agree with your view point but I respect your differing opinion and your manner in how you try to put your view across. On this point I think you make some valid points and I do think there is something in making sure there is continuity and focusing on recruiting the right people for key roles etc... Personally I think too much is being put at the door of Starnes and Widdrington and that some of it is just players out of form, impact of injuries and despite best efforts, players just not being available etc. Also the managers have to take some blame as they are the ones who tell the recruitment team what they want. Finally, I dont think anyone thought BG and PT would perform as poorly as they did - BG a very very highly rated coach with experience at the top level (making his first steps into management) and Tis who is an extremely experienced Manager with a wealth of success albeit at lower level etc...

I wish Widdrington all the best in his caretaker role, as I’m Rovers and want to see us win games & stay up, but am disillusioned by some of the decisions made. Some fair points..... I guess the crux of the issue is just how much of the decisions are with Widdrington and Starnes v Managers being given accountable freedom - ie the manager indicates what he wants, Widdringtons department scout and source players and present to the manager, the manager decides priority order of said options, Starnes and Widdrington then look to agree fees and negotiate contracts etc within agreed parameters agreed by manager and board and constantly keeping the manager informed with the manager then deciding whether to move on to the next target etc.... in terms of consultant v CEO, my preference is always for a CEO if they are the right person with the right capabilities.... I don’t think any of us know exactly what goes on to truly know whether Starnes is being a success at his job or not - we only see the public side of things and I don’t think anyone could have predicted how poorly the last 2 managers would have performed results wise. Re not going through another interview process before Tis was appointed, I can kinda understand it as we’d only interviewed less than. 12 months before when BG replaced GC and not a lot would have changed. Tis had obviously been interviewed when BG got the role so they probably went back to that. Whether that was right or wrong - the results point to wrong but to be frank if we’d gone through the interview process again I expect he would have got the job anyway. if we were to rip everything up and start again then I think your suggestions have some merit - especially as a short term fix until we recruited in the right people for more permanent roles and longevity - consultants never have that ‘we are part of this and how this club performs will directly impact me and my emotional attachment’ kind of thing so I think they are short term fix until a CEO was recruit to replace them. The CEO is accountable for the whole club end to end, not just the public facing side of things...

Posters are living in dreamland if they think Wael's going to dismiss Starnes and Widdrington and pay them a fortune in compensation, whilst he's already paying off two managers.

I’m not moaning after the event I said it prior to the appointment. Starnes has just chucked away a very large part of our playing budget sacking Garner and appointing Tisdale on a two and half year contract. His actions I think are negligent and any other public company with shareholders would be screaming blue murder at the this cock up. I will be fascinated to hear Starnes defence of his actions. Not only is he chucking money away hand over fist he’s picking up a good salary for the privilege of doing it. So too right I’m moaning

So too right I’m moaning Really after the success he had at Exeter with multiple playoff finishes, promotion and giant killings and cup runs as well as selling on a number of developed players for significant profit and also his success with MK Dons in getting them promoted? To me, if you were looking for an experienced manager with a decent CV (which we were) , he’d be a very credible candidate? I can also understand how and why Garner was recruited and why he was supported and backed despite the poor 2nd half of the 19/20 season when he was first appointed. Now people could question hiring an inexperienced manager and then sticking with him but Tisdales CV very much fitted the brief of what we all wanted post Garner - an experienced manager (not coach) who has had success..... people may not like him and could say they’d prefer someone else but they can’t say his profile didn’t fit what was needed. I don’t think anyone could have predicted results would have been so poor under him (although I personally do think injuries, the 2 week COVID break etc has had a major impact on his ability to deliver results) For me, whilst the outcome hasn’t turned out how we wanted, I don’t think Starnes has done too much wrong or should I temper that with I can understand how and why he has taken the actions he has. The only bit I’m surprised at is how quickly Tisdale was sacked - he didn’t have a huge amount of time and personally I’d have given him longer so maybe something else is part of it....
