‘Never should have let him go’ I’m not sure I recall too many people saying otherwise at the time. It is funny how short memories can become in next to no time at all. DC (as wonderful as he had been) wasted copious amounts of money on terrible footballers, Burn, Bennett, Mensah & Payne no less. Not to mention young Tom Nichols (far from terrible in my view, it just didn’t work out) He also managed to assemble a woeful squad who were heading one way & that was down. Being 4-0 behind in less than an hour at home to Doncaster come December time, really was the final straw. Still, I very much adore the man to this day and glad to see he is alive and kicking with a much improved Vale side under his command. People had different opinions at the time. I would have liked him to stay at the time even if we went down. He did make mistakes leading up to his departure but I fully backed him to turn it around at some point and make us successful long term. Even the last game against Doncaster where we got thumped 4-1, I stayed at the end when others had left and felt very emotional knowing that was DC's last game probably, and so it was. His career hasn't really gone backwards or forwards since leaving us aftee all the ups and downs, we're back to where we started when he first arrived at the club!

I appreciate you've got some stuff going on but with the affection a lot of Bristol Rovers fans have for him and his antics -
Two goals in injury time to take third place off the opposition, now beaten the rest of the top 5.
Guess which one DC is!

Spoke to a few Walsall fans the other week. They all thought he was shocking and couldn't work out why as on paper he was a good candidate. Same with Holloway, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

I really wouldn’t want GC within 100 miles of our football club ever. sh**e football, moaning interviews about how he wasn’t appreciated. Yes, we were 3rd when he left, but we would never have maintained it with that style of football in my opinion. Was a disaster at Mansfield despite a decent budget. DC took the club at its lowest point in its history and restored some pride, however you can never go back as Gerry Francis proved.

I think I’m forgetting how it feels to win a game.

I would happily see us beat that Tilson transfer fee record to sign him back. That was the last time I felt part of the club when he was here hes a legend of a man and manager its never been the same since.
DC got us out of the mess we are now back in. It was criminal when he got the bullet should of been kept as manager even if we would of got relegated.
But he deserves better. He will go on to manage in at least the championship successfully.

How much does a Port Vale shirt cost these days?
It's only a 2.5 hour drive.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The football under GC was sh**e but not as sh**e as it is now and the results under GC were very good whereas they are really really sh**e now.
I'm not a fan of GC but would have him over what we have now in a heartbeat.
I'd definitely welcome DC back, he just seemed to be a natural fit with us.
Seems it's a gone down the pan since DC left, god I miss the feeling of having a connection with the manager, players and the club. It's just not there at the moment and it's really hard to see how it can be turned around.
I live in hope that one day the tide will turn back in our favour.
UTG!

We're 41 places (and one division) below that now and still playing sh**e football.
I'd sprinkle the path with shamrocks for GC to be back and Rovers in that position.

[ He walked out on the club to bugger back up North. Why are people still going on about him. A short period of doing well with JCH in the team. The real problem at Rovers is the constant selling of decent players and trying to replace them at a fraction of the price. It caught up with us, it always does.

The real problem at Rovers is the constant selling of decent players and trying to replace them at a fraction of the price. It caught up with us, it always does. Because he got us to the highest league position we had been in for decades and we were winning football matches. We were properly tough to beat and as has been pointed out before, JCH had been injured for periods under Coughlan's reign, so it wasn't just about him.
He probably wouldn't be the answer now, but we need something drastic to halt the slide out of the Football League.
