Hopefully it doesn’t take another 10 games for the next goal, he looked a lot better after his goal taking better first touches so hopefully he’ll continue that into the next game.. gonna take more than one finish to convince me he’s good enough but it’s a good start. Well done today but please keep it up now! Utg You'd think with a more expressive, demonstrative manager behind him, that's going to happen.

I admit I know little of the technicalities of football. I watch the game as an entertainment. I say this not with the benefit of hindsight. These are my immediate thoughts during and after the game. Regarding strikers I remember watching Marcus Stewart for the first time in the FA Cup against Merthyr Tydfil at Keynsham and thinking we have a golden nugget here. He was 16 y/old I believe. He oused absolute class all game. I remember watching a certain Matty Taylor on trial for Rovers in a preseason friendly against Yeovil. He oused absolute class all game. I thought I hope we sign him I remember an average bulky striker playing at the mem thinking he could be a lot better if he stopped falling over. One game he faked a foul right in front of me. I shouted at him to stop cheating and stand up as he was better than that!. He glared at me clearly having heard what I said. Whilst I doubt he would admit he took my advice my memory is that he stopped falling over from then on and became a superb striker for us. Jason Roberts. Hanlan and Roberts for me are similar players at a certain point in their careers. He has limited attributes for me. He has a tremendous shot but his strike per score ratio is not good. Against Shrewsbury today he could, perhaps should, have scored 2 goals in the first 2 minutes. The plus he did score an excellent goal. He's a good looking lad but does he have a head? For me does he ever win a header? Balls played in the air are never won, balls played to his chest bounce back to the half way line, balls played to his feet are rarely brought under control but he is excellent at turning his man and his pace is great. he fouls too many times or falls over looking for the foul. Perhaps if we were allowed to attend I could give him the same advice I gave Roberts and we might, just might have the player Barton claims we have?

Then again you could just leave it to the manager to get the best out of our strikers.

It was a tale of two halves for Hanlan today. He missed a couple of chances in the first half, the second one especially he should have done better with. That got his head down a bit I sense, he started giving away the ball with some poor touches.
He came out in the second half and was a lot lot better, he works hard and puts his weight about which is something I like about him. Nice finish for his goal, really well taken. I hope he puts his goalscoring hiatus behind him and kicks on from here. There was no coincidence that when he scored the majority of his goals this season October/November time, we were picking up points on a regular basis, he’ll be ever so important to our chances of staying up I feel.

I really hope so, I’ve not rated him overly high this season but of course I’d love for him to progress and prove doubts wrong, JB seems to really believe in him so that’s gotta count for a lot

Agreed. I said at half time he looks ill because he was so sluggish and slow to react and that if he didn’t improve after the break then should be subbed around 60 mins. And then he comes out second half plays a blinder and scored just before the 60 min mark. Happy days.

When running at defenders Hanson is a real handful so powerful but does go to ground too easy but that’s the modern game for you. Sort out his finishing and he will be a very good player but as I said before he is still quite raw with plenty to work on but there is talent there. I think there could be more to his game than Clarke Harris and he is doing very well at Peterborough at the moment. Who is Hanson? Mmm bop?

I think Tisdale did very little to help his confidence. But Barton has talked him up publicly and may well have done so at half time today in the dressing room. I just think that two weeks ago or more Hanlan wouldn’t have taken his chance in the second half after missing those in the first half as he’d have still been carrying them around in his head. Today he looked like he’d been told to forget the misses and go out and score.

I think Barton has done a good job in boosting Hanlan's confidence which is much needed as he's virtually all we've got at at present.
Next season though, if we stay up, I can see us signing a more experienced striker with Hanlan playing second fiddle - that's if we really want to push on.

Sometimes you have to look a bit deeper into a game than the ones player score or don't score and what they do in the wider context of the game. Hanlan always has more than one player keeping an eye on him and for most of this season has had to play on his own up front. To me he has shown in the goals he has scored that he has the ability to do well. I would also state that his scoring record is better than Tom Nichols who for some reason a lot on here still rave about. Hanlan like Ayunga is still a young player and with the right coaching I believe we could yet have two aces on our hands. No player should really receive criticism today after that performance. It is more a case of more of the same. I very much hope that Kilgour, Harries and Leahey can prove me wrong not only today but in the majority of games.

Not sure if others have said, but JB said post match to watch the run from Hanlan for the first goal.
I’ve just seen the highlights and it’s true what JB said, he deserves an assist for that goal, his run across the defenders to the near post drags 2 players with him leaving Leahy free to score.
Leahy I feel is actually the player I want on the end of chances in the box, he is a clinical finisher for a left back.
On my second celebratory ale, and it may be the beer speaking but I’m so happy for all the lads, they deserved that win and they’ve had many knocks often unfairly and it shows some real character to put that shift in.
They were a pleasure to watch (except the last 3 mins) and if they can keep that level or improve it, if they stay together, we have a team who can go places in this league next year.
Bear in mind we have Oztumer and Ayunga on the bench. Both who are seriously good players on their day.
I do wonder why Oz isn’t getting games as he is probably our biggest name, and think he’s performed quite well most times he’s played

Just a little typing error o great one you know what these mobile phone keyboards are like. What is Mmm bop? Don’t ask. Ok it was a really irritating pop song from about 25 years ago sung by an American kids band. Called Hansan

Just a little typing error o great one you know what these mobile phone keyboards are like. What is Mmm bop? It's a song from the 90s by a teen pop band called Hanson. They were three brothers with long blonde hair - a little one about 12 on drums, a spotty older one about 19 on guitar and a middle one about 16 on keyboard who looked uncannily like a girl - a very confusing time for a teenaged lad.

Hanson? “Take a seat....why don’t you sit down for me....take a seat right there” Must admit I had to look this one up.
