We're appalling at it, and it's costing us big time. I've looked at the numbers and we've conceded 18/56 goals in the five minutes before half time/full time, in injury time, within five minutes of scoring or a sending off. Charlton were one minute away from making that 19 yesterday with their 84th minute winner. That's 32% of the goals we've conceded at key times in matches.
Another observation, we've only scored one goal this season after the 80th minute (Zain Westbrooke making it 3-0 vs Plymouth, 85th minute). The latest winning goal we've scored (the goal to give Rovers the lead in a match that we won) was in the 60th minute (Brandon Hanlan goal against Shrewsbury in the 2-1 win). We've not scored an equaliser in a score draw match this season.
Pretty damning numbers with regards to the mentality of this team.

Probably an element of that and not having players on the bench that can change a game as well... we do seem to fade badly in the last 15 mins of games , must be fitness ?

The players are doing more pressing than they ever have previously. Always going to take its toll as games go on, especially with limited recovery time.
We're also not great at keeping possession for any length of time which would help us manage the games better and conserve energy.

I can't think of any reason why we should be noticeably less fit than any other side, a lot of teams are playing twice weekly and have the same problems with regards to squad fitness that we do.... I think as chewy said, there seems to be no strategy going in to games late on. Perhaps we can't change players and keep shape, maybe we have a dilemma whereby we weaken in the hope that having fresher legs might be advantageous in either the short or long term.... Whatever it is the stats suggest that we are not even close to finding a solution to this....

Pretty damning numbers with regards to the mentality of this team. Nice obs, Chewie.. The commentary have remarked on the last time we scored late goal....our bubble have mentioned it a few times. JAB likes his double sub in last 5 mins, and more often than not, it leads to us looking desperately poor and either clinging on, conceding or us losing the initiative completely. The lesson to be learned is cash out on 70 mins if you're winning your bet!

Didn't Rochdale have a bench full of youngsters when they played us, Wigan also had a poor sqaud, if we've got such a weak bench then why aren't the likes of Oztumer, Hare and Tomlinson, not even making the bench? Tutonda also is surely a better option on the left wing, with Leahy moving to LCB, than Little was on the right?

But I thought thats why new manager was brought in, to solve the problems high hopes of that. Since JB came in we have been playing twice a week which means he hasn't yet been able to have a full week on the training pitch and certainly no time to work on players fitness. If the quality of the player isn't good enough, then there's not much he can do about that either. We have to hope that after next week when we go back to playing once a week things will improve. You would think so with the pressing game JB wants us to play. That'll be much easier to sustain when you only have to play once a week.

You’re wasting your breath QG - “bobbyjones” clearly has a massive anti-Barton/anti-Rovers agenda, going by their previous posts . . .

Next 2 games massive. Pick up less than 3 points and in my opinion we will go down.

It seems bizarre to me that we haven't taken a chance with Ledley - on a short contract to the end of the season, or on a game by game basis. After the Development squad game he played in a couple of weeks ago or so, one of the other players said he was the best they had ever played with. To have him on the bench to come on when legs are tiring for the last 30 or so minutes would surely be better than bringing on the likes of Little, or someone to play out of position. I'm sure an ex international wouldn't be 'not ready' when called upon from the bench to keep things tight. Alternatively he could start, play 60 mins and be replaced with fresh legs later...
