We need a decent left back almost as much as we need a new striker. We can’t keep playing a centre half at left back. And a sh** centre half at that.

Anderton and Clarke have played almost all of their careers as left backs/wingbacks. There are far more important positions we need to sort before we even think of signing a left back.

It’s been said several times anderton is a left sided centre back not a natural left back and looking at him today he is definitely not a left back. If he was Barton wouldn’t be playing him in the centre and a centre back left back would he !!!! Clarke is a wing back not a natural left back also. So we have one natural left back. Ryan Jones who isn’t ready.

Anderton is a left back and has been for most of his career, he's awful as a left central defender as part of a defensive duo but could probably do a job in a back 3 where he has more cover. We need a right back, creative central midfielder and big forward as a minimum.

If that’s the case why is he being played out of position as a centre half in a back 4 then a centre half in his position at left back? Genuine question because I don’t understand the logic behind that ?

A left back, a central midfielder in the Wes Hoolahan mould, another right back as competition for Hoole, another CB (and get rid of Baldwin and Harries) and a centre forward. Not much needed then. 🙄.

Although he knows Anderton is better at left back perhaps he just feels he’s less likely to make a mistake than Harries, which would generally be more costly in the middle of the pitch than out wide.

We've struggled to create anything in pre-season and now the first 3 games of the season. Just checked the stats and one shot on target again. One tame effort on target vs Cheltenham in the last minute and two shots on target vs Mansfield. Clearly not good enough and needs to improve sharpish. Some important business needs to be done.

That’s the only conclusion. Which also means he doesn’t trust Baldwin kilgour or Taylor either as 2 out of those 3 were on the bench meaning he could have played anderton left back. It’s all such a mess. It feels like these first few league games are our pre season after we made a hash of the real one.

I know he’s young and only a loanee but he can’t trust Taylor in the league at the moment after tuesdays performance. Personally I’d be looking to get Kilgour back in the side as he’s shown he’s more than capable in the past and would hope Hughes (in the same way as Tony Craig) can bring the best out of him. Baldwin and then Harries would be my back up CB’s, I’d only play Anderton as a ‘stay at home’ left back if we play a back four.

Barton on the striker we missed out on: "As soon as a League One club starts sniffing round, they’ve got more money than you and obviously the appeal of playing in League One" You know its bad if Shrewsbury Town have more financial clout than us (..although I cant see how this would affect a loan player)

Believe that and you'll believe anything. 😆

In which case we wouldnt have been anywhere near
