I c on social media that .the proposal for next season squad size 22 not including goalkeepers and player under 21 I feel that is ludicrous. Really you need like 2 players per position then another few more on top for key positions - For me it's 26 if you HAVE to put a cap on... I mean this season we lost - Hanlan, Ayunga and Daly (FWD) at the same time also Grant, Upson and Agogo (DM) at the same time just to give a couple of examples I'm sure other teams had similar too Thoughts?

Is there no limit to how many different ways the lower league clubs are getting f**ked over? This is ridiculous. Limit the squad size, increase the number of games with the EFL Trophy, prevent emergency loans, academy players snatched for peanuts. What am I missing?

Real concern considering the 'dead weight' we are carrying already....

I c on social media that .the proposal for next season squad size 22 not including goalkeepers and player under 21 Where have you seen this has the only recent news articles I can find are the ones suggesting the PFA are threatening to take the EFL to Arbitration, if they try and impose squad sizes again next season?

I c on social media that .the proposal for next season squad size 22 not including goalkeepers and player under 21 Is the 22 number a new rule change? Looking at the EFL rules online it is still showing that the limit for this season in Leagues 1 and 2 is 20, down from 22 last season. The PFA have been lobbying for it to be increased to 25. This excludes players who were under 21 on 1 January 2021. Crazy rule especially with our injury record. Could do with a higher than 25 limit.

Giving them a contract doesn’t mean they make the 22, yes it’s a waste of money if you can’t ship them out on loan, but if they know they are likely to be forgotten men stuck in a stand for half a season they may be inclined to instruct their agent to work for their money and find them a club that wants them. Telling players with a year or so on their contract that they can leave on a free is giving them fair warning they are unlikely to get a game for six months at least if they choose to stay.

Can’t really see the problem with this as it’ll be the same for all clubs. Shock horror that occasionally players might have to play slightly out of position .

Frosty:
A squad limit of 20 is in place, despite the withdrawal of the salary cap.
However, Rovers will be allowed 22 over-21 players next season. Such an allowance is made to clubs relegated from League One.

Absolute mental... imagine only 20 players not even competition for places that - unless you have quality U21s I spose

Its an awful rule and i am shocked its allowed it means the likes of Bodin and any other player with an injury history will struggle to get a club. I am surprised its not against some employment law

Based on: I make it: 9 aged under 21 (inc. Ollie and Lucas who are still negotiating) 17 aged 21 or over So we have 5 slots available over 21 if we don't loan/sell/terminate anyone else

A squad of 20 is very tight. Discounting goalkeepers that leaves two players per position. With injuries and suspensions teams will really struggle to field competitive sides. I agree that squads should be limited but reducing the limit to just 20 is extreme. Clubs will be desperate for players who can fill in more than one position. We're just desperate for players who can actually play the game in any position!
