Scotland vs Czech Republic at Hampden Park. Are we for/against Scots or not bothered? I actually think Scots are in the best place they have been for a long time. Their midfield and defence is quite strong (McTominay, Mcginn, Gilmour, Robertson, Tierney etc) . Steve Clarke seems to be doing a good job. From their point of view they are in a tough group and the Czechs are no push overs as they have proven by beating us! Think today will be a tight game. Good luck to big jock and all other Scottish Gasheads out there! My dads side all hail from Scotland and I always tend to support them when they are playing other nations. The jocks would rather see anyone win but England, patriotism runs deep up there and we are the Bristol City of the UK to them.

A great result and glad the headless chicken AKA Sterling got a goal. He isn’t world class but he has some serious pace. I’m very much looking for a post brexit statement to Europe and win it would very much supply that. Beating Scotland will be a nice statement to Jimmy Krankie. Come on England What sort of post brexit statement are you looking for out of interest? Winning the European championship will naturally upset those who are anti-independence and anti-Britain. Even if we don’t win, I’ll just enjoy all those England flags waving, as I know how upsetting that can be on its own.

The sight of waving flags gets him aroused as well.

Whereas we couldn't really care about them or if anything want them to do well!

Home nations are a weird one. I always want them to do well (as long as its not better than us), but when I watch their games I find myself supporting the other team.

I definitely don't want them to do better than us, but would sya that about any country. I thought the Wales players really lacked class in the last Euros, celebrating us going out.

Hopefully the jocks do well and can start a bit of a legacy and be regular qualifiers....
Remembering 86, 90, 96, and 98 you have to say that that the tartan army are brilliant at international tournaments....
I've quite missed them.... Go Scotland....

I always used to support the other home nations but the growing anti English sentiment has changed my view over the years. Hope Scotland and Wales get hammered and exit at the group stage. I’m not sure Scotland should even be in the tournament tbh - they have been so poor for many years and always failed to qualify and so have lobbied for more qualifying places which to me discredits the whole thing.
It’s getting to the point that the top 4 in a 5 team group will qualify for the tournament and all the last place teams play off. It’s hard not to qualify these days. It’s almost turning into a school sports day!!!

Hmm I get your point, but that’s because we’re a big nation who qualifies. Tell that to Scotland, or other teams, that this isn’t the finals. For a lot of teams, they had to really do a lot of work just to get here, so I can see why it’s referred to the finals. I do not like the nations league setup for qualifying though. The finals should be the best of Europe, not an inclusion contest. No disrespect to North Macedonia but they shouldn’t be here. Nor should any of the teams that qualified through the nations league (sorry Scotland). We need to either add another 4 teams whereby you can only qualify via group qualifications (no nations league and no play offs), or revert have to the previous format of 4 groups going straight to the quarter finals. This 3rd place going through is a joke. The finals is supposed to be the best in Europe.

One definate pro is that no team is out of the competition after 2 matches so there's never any 'dead wood' fixtures for the last round of group games....

I agree, it’s only rubbing shoulders with some of the minor U.K. nations you realise it’s actually genuine in a lot of cases - not just banter, they actually want us to fail. Wales I find is the exception. A lot of Welsh fans actually support England surprisingly. I feel the same way about them as they do about us - kind of don’t really dislike them but if they won anything you’d never hear the end of it! Scotland and Ireland though, def want them to fail.

One definate pro is that no team is out of the competition after 2 matches so there's never any 'dead wood' fixtures for the last round of group games.... Thats a fait point, but I think with each dead wood fixture lost, there's bound to be some more. A quick example from the last Euros: England Vs Slovakia, final game of the group. England have 4 points in 2nd, Slovakia 3 in 3rd. Slovakia basically came and stuck 11 men behind the ball and we didn't really bother to attack them. Both teams knew they were through with a draw and were happy with that. In normal circumstances, that would have been a great game, with both teams going for it. I also dislike where you finish in our group and the difference it makes on who you play in the last of 16. Finish 1st and you play 2nd of another group. Finish 2nd and you play 2nd of another group. 3rd would have to play a winner, but theres no advantage to winning the group vs coming 2nd anymore.
