'There were high hopes for accountability. But the match commander David Duckenfield was acquitted after two trials, and the collapse of this aftermath trial means that no one has been convicted for the alleged cover-up.'
Sickening really.

And yet no one has been found accountable for their decisions that day and the following cover up. Pretty disgraceful really. CPS appears to have messed up, again. UTG!

This is a very emotive subject and my head says not to get involved with the debate, BUT IMHO thousands of people were responsible for what evolved that day , one or two may have been from those in authority, the only certainty about the events is that those who lost their lives were totally innocent and did not deserve their fate, God bless the family's affected as there pain will never end ,there sacrifice has led to a much safer environment in which to watch football and i hope this is an end to the public debate .

It has gone on too long. They should let it rest now, other disasters like Heysel and Bradford have been forgotten

It’s such a tough subject to discuss candidly and basing it on the reports in publications with agenda’s at hand is also fraught with danger. It’s funny how when some are found not guilty the reaction is that they’re innocent now and should be treated as such, for example in the case of Ben Stokes and yet when others go through the same process the feeling is different. It’s always been politically impossible to fully examine the events at Hillsborough and as such it’s almost impossible for the families of the innocent people that died to get any peace

It was a lot of mistakes and unintended consequences from everyone. The fans didn’t mean to kill anyone and neither did the police. The way it was handled after was what was wrong. People also forget the reason the fans got blamed is Liverpool got us banned from Europe and rushing the fans at heysel got a lot of people killed. They weren’t exactly popular. Then it’s kind of evolved into a sun/south east/tory/authorities V working class labour voters type thing, I know that’s highly reductive but it’s kind of what it became. You can predict people’s views on it based largely on what their other tribal or political views are. What the main thing to remember is that fathers lost sons looking in their eyes. None of them were guilty of anything, and the press/cover up was awful. Still, one valuable thing: we learn from our mistakes. As you say, the one thing we can take from this horrific tragedy is we will never let it happen again or let politics of guilt by association interfere with justice and morally correct actions. A bloke taking his son to the footy has nothing to do with the actions of watered up hooligans. It’s collectivising people into groups is where all evil lies, and that’s kind of what happened. Liverpool fans have bad and good and because some behaved badly, to the poor guy watching his beloved die before his eyes, their only kinship is they watch the same team. That’s it. Sadly, as always, we see humans as groups and this enables us to put people in boxes. Sadly at Hillsborough it was literal. I have to say I used to be unsympathetic based on the Liverpool fans track record but becoming a father myself changes your views on this stuff, and I almost well up thinking of the terrible experiences of some of those fans. Right. There endeth the monologue.

The Taylor Report and the Independent Hillsborough Panel all found that the fans were not responsible and the main reason for the 95 deaths, at the time, 96 after another one died after a long period of unconsciousness was the failure of the police not doing what they should have done. Unequivocal, no doubt. Yet 32 years later despite evidence of altered statements to misdirect and avoid responsibility those responsible get away with it. Shameful. UTG!

Pirate, I always told my family that the truth would come out in the end and those who were responsible would have to answer for what they hadn’t done and how their cover-up would come to light. It was taking a long time but it seemed it would happen in the end. And now this happens. I think I was wrong and I fear that you may be right about those other forces behind the scenes pulling strings to do what they want and get the result they want. Christ, in this century to think those things are still going on. UTG!

Just pray that neither you or your loved ones are not ever involved in any tragedy such as the above. None of the above have been forgotten and never will be as long as us real football fans keep the candle burning. We learn to live and learn with awful events such as these. You should be utterly ashamed of yourself. JFT96

None of the above have been forgotten and never will be as long as us real football fans keep the candle burning. We learn to live and learn with awful events such as these. You should be utterly ashamed of yourself. JFT96 So, tell me exactly what else is there to come from this. Because for the last 30 years it has been about the blame game. The police, well apparently they're to blame. But what about the supporters who rather than go to the sides of Leppings Road just pushed down the middle, and the fences, put there as a result of years of seeing "supporters" go on to the pitch to try and attack other people. Then there is Bradford, an absolute tragedy, but ask any kid about football disasters and they quote "Liverpool". Sadly because Bradford wan't and isnt one of the top six clubs their tragedy has been mostly forgotton, especially by the media. Certainly not by the people of Bradford or the club (and I know the owner personally). Then there are Liverpool whose "supporters" were directly involved in causing the tragedy that happened at Heysel, not many supporters can or want to remember that, and finally the biggest disaster was at Rangers. how often is that "remebered" by the media? The truth is there is a media story about Liverpool and the Wednesday ground virtually every year. They are "searching for the truth", and the truth is there, but there were many truths that day. A lot of Liverpool supporters without tickets. The police opening the main gate at Lepping Road, because they feared trouble in the streets, the fences put at up at all games because of poor behaviour by fans at games, (we had them at Eastville). No I am not sorry for my comment because I dont see anything else, or anyone else that can take the blame, what I will point out though there were no problems at the other end, where there was a terrace and fences. Why was that? No one has ever asked or answered that question. Perhaps they all had tickets, perhaps they were better behaved, perhaps there was a big police presence at that end. I dont know, I wasn't there, I was watching Rovers at Brentford As a result of this the fences came down, and that was a good thing for all of us. Yes the families and supporters of those clubs will go on remembering what happened, and that includes the Italian supporters that were Heysel that day. But over time as people pass on, these things will become history, and in todays world, history, apparently is anything over 20 odd years. And no I am not ashamed, I have witnessed (by film and TV) all of the above; outrageous at the time, but as I said previously sinking in to the realms of history.

Mods, please move thread I can see where this is goin an no one will benefit With respect to all. 👍 Yep , it was inevitable the thread would lead to folk expressing vastly differing opinions on the subject, every one is entitled to there point of view and certainly lpgas1 has nothing to be ashamed of for expressing his , he is by no means alone in his opinion though others will passionately disagree, so as Big Jock says , best stop the thread before things get out of hand .
