This season I am going to try something I have never done before - cycling to The Mem.
Before the pandemic hit, I cycled to work every day, so I (was) very experienced in commuter cycling. Clearly I am now rusty as an old nail.
Has anybody on here cycled to The Mem before? I would be interested in hearing your experiences.
I expect I am in for a world of hurt with regards to bag searches, but I can cope with that :-)
I have messaged the club asking about their cycling facilities, especially given that cycling was mentioned in the recent 2021/2022 Code Of Conduct. Needless to say, I have not had a response yet.

I've never noticed any cycling facilities in the past, all I've seen are a few cycles chained to the fence near the clubhouse, which are clearly left at the owners risk. If your bike has any value then I'd email Tom Gorringe to see if the club are able to offer you any secure facilities for your bike.

When I cycle I usually lock my bike up near the traffic lights where Filton Avenue meets Gloucester Road, bit of a faff sometimes after the game when people are swarming all over the place but not too bad

Just mention how on your 2nd match you will be 'recycling' the route .So even more environmentally friendly.

I was hoping for somewhere in the car park area, but I don't remember any dedicated facilities being there.

Tie your bike to the goalposts we are attacking. If hanlan is still upfront it wont get damaged

Looking on Google Earth in and around the ground, there are 2 cycle bars outside Horfield Methodist Church on the pavement.

There are some railings outside the East Terrace turnstiles - maybe you’ll be allowed to lock your bike there? I’ve thought about cycling before but security has been one issue and also Filton Ave not the nicest road to cycle along on my route home although after that it’s cycle paths alongside the ring road all the way back to Emerson’s Green. I’d be interested if you could post the response you get back from the club. In my experience Tom Gorringe is very helpful and I think the club would have to do something to accommodate cyclists after recommending people walk/cycle to matches rather than use public transport.

I live in Wiltshire so I don't think I'll be cycling to the Mem. I do walk from Temple Meads though, pausing for refreshment in the odd hostelry on the way there and back.

I've just looked on Google Maps Street View, and I think you can just see the bike racks just inside the gates behind the entrance to the main car park.
I will let you know what response I get, and my experience on the 14th August.

I usually lock mine to the fence behind the ticket office at the Clubhouse End. Never had a problem. Although as others have said there are a couple of bicycle stands at the turning from Glozzy Road into Filton Avenue by the Methodist Church, which can make for a quicker getaway than pushing your bike through a crowd out of the ground. I wonder if there is a parking spot for those electric scooters near The Mem?

I wonder if there is a parking spot for those electric scooters near The Mem? Is that inside the Memorial Gates entrance? I am in the South West stand, so that side of the ground would be the logical place for me. I will try that. Encouraging to hear other people cycling to watch football

There is a cycleway that runs from constable rd all the way to abbeywood and the ringroad cycleway. Just wiggle your way down the sidestreets to the railway line and runs alongside it. Might add a few minutes to the journey but more pleasant im sure as theres no roads.

I wonder if there is a parking spot for those electric scooters near The Mem? Yeah there is, one at the bus stop opposite the Welly, one by the Methodist Church where the bike racks are and one at the muller road/Filton Avenue junction.

I cycled quite a few times when the yo-bikes were operating.
I'd recommend researching your route as often you can take a longer route that is along cycle paths which is much safer and easier.
My first trip I went the same way as I would driving and it was pretty hair raising!
