Bristol Rovers are set to complete the signing of left-back Junior Brown on a free transfer. Brown is a versatile left-sided player who can play as a left-back, a wing-back or even as a winger further up the field. The 32-year-old is vastly experienced, having endured spells in the EFL with the likes of Fleetwood Town, Scunthorpe United and Shrewsbury Town. Brown, who was also on Coventry’s books, joined Scunthorpe last summer on a one-year deal, making 14 appearances in League Two for the Iron. Fills ALL Rovers criteria on 3 fronts: 1 Fleetwood, 2: Coventry 3: Over 30. What a fecking joke we have become. A possible replacement for Lee Brown - who should never have been allowed to leave.

Talk about Alfie heading out. Disgrace if true, IMO. Am I in the minority saying that I wouldn’t be fussed if Alfie left? Was good when he broke through. Hasn’t really built on that though and has regressed IMO. One of our own, so I get all the loyalty but Locks was far better and he gets a lot of sh** from Rovers fans.

Invent a rumour about a particular player may be leaving, have several poster declare it’s a disgrace if said player goes. Strange mentality to make it up in the first place and then to be so alarmed about what hasn’t happened yet. We need to remember every one of the players JB inherited was brought to the club, or brought through the ranks of the club to play in a League at least one tier above where we are, as such should any player choose to leave or be sold in order to help achieve our return to that level it’s not a disgrace it’s a necessary component of our attempt to re-emerge. It might fail, it might succeed but to hold on to the present because you fear the future is going to stagnate us not evolve us. If we end up with a squad committed to performing to the best of their ability regardless of age or previous experience, proud to represent us in the quarters and demonstrate that to us in the remaining fixtures then if we have to lose one or two of our current heroes to do it then so be it. I remember the time when you kept your quality players like Jarman, Taylor, Prince, David Williams for season after season so that they racked up 300+ appearances, that doesn’t happen now, it they’re good they are gone in 200 games or less, JCH managed 38 that’s not even a season’s worth. Anssi and Alfie have both managed more games than that. So we have to be realistic, they’ll stay if they want to, they’ll go if they want to. We just need to get behind the squad we retain on September 1st Completely disagree in terms of needing to sell players from a previous regimme as a "necessary component to re-emerge". If say Alfie or Grant left of their own accord and don't have their hand forced then its understandable, a bid comes in and they want to leave, completely fine and I wish them well. If they're pushed out and replaced by older, less talented signings, which looks to be Barton's strategy, that's the issue.

Wow .... just gone 1pm and all we have to show are a few rumours that were actually going around yesterday - meh So as things stand - Possibles are two ageing guys who have been on trial for two weeks - Free Two Free agents - Neither game changers - Free One mystery striker - maybe from Villa on loan as a Thank you for taking our young Academy Lad Not sure where the excitement is or the statement of intent from our Board ! Only the loanee needs to be announced today of course so starting to become less and less interested in this pantomime. Do you mean we're going to sign Roy Orbison? Junior brown on guitar ..

As has been mentioned, free agents don't have to be signed by 11pm today. So if the likes of Whelan, Clarke, Brown and Evans are inbound, there is no rush to force it through quickly today. Maybe the clubs priority right now is outgoings to create space for them. Also, focusing on any players they are possibly looking to sign from other teams who would need to be done by the deadline. The only odd thing about these 4 is they have been without a club all window if Barton wanted them why not get the in early July like the others then they would be match fit and ready to go Nail. On. Head.

So, am I reading the situation correctly?
Rovers are looking to sign: Brown, Evans, Whelan and Clarke. They are all free agents, therefore no need to do anything today, so we can all stop refreshing Twatter, Faceache and the club site, and go about our normal business? All the while muttering to ourselves...same old same old; no ambition; a team of has beens; We're a joke; Barton doesn't have a clue; relegation candidates; we need a decent striker; have we learnt nothing from the last 18 months?

I imagine the loan window is longer and thus we'll have more options on loan. Loan window closes today as well.

If it ends up being Clarke, Pitman and Saunders as the striking options then we’re no better off than last season.
Surely we could have kept Ayunga and Daly and looked to coach and develop them?
Likewise Westbrooke. Yes, he’s frustrating and doesn’t put a tackle in but why not look to, you know, develop him rather than bomb him out and bring in players who don’t have promotions from league one on their cvs.
According to Sam Frost we might be loaning Westbrooke AND paying a portion of his wages because we’re so desperate to make the squad limits.

I think the problem relates not to signings but getting departures off of the books. Is no news good news? All seems a bit late to me.

He’s gone backwards but he’s shown under Coughlan that he has the ability to play at League One level. There was Premier League interest at one stage. He’s also a local player who came through the system. That counts for something in my book if we’re taking about bombing him out for lower league journeymen. It pains me that, under Joey, we don’t want to coach and develop players - we just want to buy, buy, buy.

He only has to arrange loans out of the club, what a waste of time and effort the bloke is. Still seething about the way he was lording it up with his mates on a podcast when he was given a job. It was as though he couldn't believe his luck.

To have no communication through today when our hopes were lifted after the game on Saturday suggests that the jigsaw pieces aren’t fitting into place. We can only speculate but to be frank it doesn’t look good does it. Mr Hopeful wants more communication than we have received today. It’s now twenty to four on transfer deadline day. They say it’s the hope that kills you. 🤞Can a rabbit be pulled out of the hat?

While it isn't the fault of the players we're in for that they are the ages they are, it does smack to me of further evidence the club has completely lost its way - or at least this manager's wants are not compatible with what the stated aims of the board are.
"we are keen for the close ties between the first-team and Academy to be expanded further, showcasing a pathway for young players.” - Martyn Starnes, 23 December 2019.
I am not against signing experienced players, I'd have taken Whelan at the start of the window instead of the likes of Coutts but not as well as, especially if it means players like Hargreaves, Liddle and Tomlinson are moved on.
We'll see, it could well be a master stroke and experienced "street-wise" players will take us up, but if it doesn't, what does that do for Starnes' pathway? Will we be lumbered with difficult to shift older pros on long contracts (like Bennett was) and then we'll really be stuck here?
