Personally I think we're lacking a mobile no9 type player who would score us 10-15 goals and bring the likes of Nucholson, Thomas etc into the game. However, we saw last night we do have goals in us from other areas of the pitch so I dont necessarily agree with the general deadline day doom and gloom. Yes we've brought in some players the wrong side of 30 but people seem to be overlooking the others we've brought in, I dont know ages off the top of my head but Saunders, Collins, Thomas, Anderson, Taylor, Finley, Spence, Evans and Anderton are all likely to play a decent part in the season. The squad is fixed now until Jan, let's hope that when the next transfer window opens we dont need another major overhaul But how easy is it to sign, late in the transfer window, probably the most in demand player on a free transfer? I can never understand why Wael's content to spend £m's on the training ground but not on the playing squad. At least he's prepared to spend it somewhere at the club. Hopefully Clarke can be the big No 9 we've needed in both boxes since JCH left, even if it seems unlikely he'll score many goals. Bearing in mind the club never discloses what we pay for players, none of us has any idea whether that's true or not. The only evidence we have is that Barton has said he's happy with the backing he's received in the transfer market, so you're probably wrong about that.

So it's a question of on field performance starting on Saturday with Crawley. Hoping for some sustained improvement, even a win.

Last night's display should boost Sat's crowd by a few hundred. They won't bring many but with a rare positive display last night the Gas will hoping for a much needed three points. Millwall Tone plays for them. Not sure why BG let him and Sercs go but all that is history now.

What an awful signing he has proved to be.

Question to those who know the minutiae of the transfer rules …does the date of the termination determine at what level Barrett can sign for another club? I.e if the termination bears yesterday’s date that makes him a free agent when the window closed and he can effectively sign for anyone but if the termination bears today’s date he can only sign for a club outside the top four divisions because he was in contract at the point the deadline closed? Could be a moot point if he’s still injured but he may not be able to pursue a career with another league club until the next window opens if he has only been released today.

I think that's nailed on. However... Could be an interesting week. Must be a few players out there in a similar position to Barrett who didn't get a move in the window, and had their contract terminated, so this could bring in a mini-window of released players who are now free-agents, who weren't free yesterday 🤔 Be interesting to see who's been released and where, and if any fit our criteria!

Doing a bit of digging around on the Fleetwood fans Facebook page, searching for opinions on Whelan but also finding some comments on Saunders, Finley and Coutts. The comments on Whelan seem to start off well and then get worse. Bear in mind he hardy played after Barton left. Opinions on Coutts are also mixed. They mostly rate Finley and to a lesser extent, Saunders. They couldn’t understand why he didn’t play so much after the beginning of 2020/21, when he was banging them in for fun. He only actually started 6 league games for Fleetwood.
19th January 2020:
Whelan and Coutts don’t work. Too slow imo. Matate, S Morris, Saunders all have that hunger give them minutes! Finley was superb tonight 👍🏻
29th January 2020: Whelan man of the match? Thoughts?
1st February 2020: However for me, Whelan was above everyone. Ran the midfield.
3rd March 2020: Thought whelan was excellent today great performance from the lads 👏👏👏👏👏👏
7th July 2020: (discussing possible retained list) Whelan worth another year? Not sure about the others
Whelan a definate for me!!!
15th September 2020: The midfield with Coutts and Whelan pulling the strings and Camps pushing forward is quite impressive.
9th October 2020: Can we just take a minute to praise Whelan and Coutts. Once again they run the socks off and pull the strings of our side. Whelan just wants to get on the ball and Coutts is just a play maker. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Harvey Saunders is one that shows you that you never give up. Barton wanted to get rid of him 6 months in and he’s showed how good he is.
24th October 2020: Whelan and Camps made us flow.
5th December 2020: Might as well get rid of eitber coutts or whelan as tbeir basically the same player and coming to the end of tbeir careers.
21st January 2021: Speculation Coutts is going to Salford. Good. I have never thought he played to his ability Does he want a lift? They can have Whelan as well if they want Coutts came here following a leg break and don't think he's ever been same. Finley or Rossiter are more than capable, it’s playing Couttes and Whelan together that goes sideways without intention........🦀🦀
20th March 2021: Sort of game were we could do with Glenn Whelan getting his foot on it in the middle of park. Think finlay could end up getting a red card longer he stays on.
13th May 2021: (Coutts, Whelan and Finley released) Finley leaving is a shame. I like him
The only one I’d have hoped we kept would have been Finley. But he’s not irreplaceable.
Finlay good player surprised they let him go
Back to me - the comments on Coutts and Whelan do worry me a bit. They clearly have quality but have we signed them 2 years too late? We need some mobility in the midfield. It might be that one of them plus Finley and Grant might work, but if Finley gets injured we might be a bit static in the middle of the park.

More likely they will battle it out for the same spot.
Maybe at 33 & 37 Barton isn't expecting them to play week in week out and therefore they'll share the load.

Congratulations on the win last night obviously the league is your priority but any win helps the confidence . Now that the transfer window is done and dusted there can be no distractions for your main goal which is promotion. I know you didnt get everything you wanted out of the window but thats the same for most clubs we all want something more,When I saw that you had signed a 36 year old striker I thought you had gazumped United for Ronaldo.
